Melody Carlson has written more than 200 books for teens, women, and children. Before publishing, Melody traveled around the world, volunteered in teen ministry, taught preschool, raised two sons, and worked briefly in interior design and later in international adoption. 'I think real-life experiences inspire the best fiction,' she says. Her wide variety of books seems to prove this theory.

This novel offers a more vivacious flow than its predecessor, but the characters remain as blank faced and undefined as ever. When something happens to change their lives, the reader feels none of the blow. When asked about a painful truth, any character will just come right out with it, with no emotional buildup. The protagonists are deep in the world of fashion and modeling with nary a glance at issues such as substance abuse or eating disorders.
