This subject about pets and the people who take care of them will interest young children, parents, and teachers. The opening page asks what a veterinarian does. The text is simple with each page devoted mainly to large-scale, colorful and simple illustrations. The text and pictures together describe a veterinarian's job. Successive pages show a veterinarian listening to a pet's heart and lungs or checking eyes, ears, and teeth. Another page shows a brown and white horse being examined by a veterinarian. Writer Owen also explains that vets take care of zoo animals and wild animals such as eagles that are injured.
