Writer Owen also explains that vets take care of zoo animals and wild animals such as eagles that are injured. The book also shows the importance of children taking care of their pets and working along with the veterinarian for a healthy animal. The illustrations are colorful and can be used to teach young children colors. The last pages mention interesting facts such as how Egyptians gave medical treatment to cattle, dogs and birds almost 4,000 years ago. There are tips on when a pet needs to see a vet. A glossary is provided as well as further reading and Web sites.
