Description:This book, a nice update from the first edition of 2004, starts each chapter with three to four pertinent objectives. Sections titled advice from the experts, peak technique, now I get it, no place like home, and memory joggers explain key concepts, provide important care reminders, and reinforce learning.
Purpose:It provides an interactive, fun approach to learning.
Audience:This is a perfect introduction and first step in building a solid foundation for healthcare providers caring for and focusing on cardiac patients. It is also an easy to read reference for healthcare providers not focusing on cardiac patients, but caring for patients with cardiac comorbidities.
Features:This book uses a consistent approach throughout the book to cover the care of the cardiovascular patient from anatomy, physiology, and assessment, to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. A wide variety of the most common cardiovascular disorders are covered including common cardiac emergencies and complications. The illustrations are fun and useful.
Assessment:This is helpful for medical-surgical students when first introduced to cardiac patients as well as novice nurses practicing for the first time on a cardiac unit. Cardiovascular care is ever changing and this new edition after just four years is one way to stay on top of the newest innovations in cardiac care.
