Book Synopsis

From the vast farmlands of Nebraska to the marble halls of Congress to the Green Zone in Baghdad, Tom Osborne has become a beacon of what it means to succeed with character and in a humble spirit. He is most famous for leading the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football team to three national championships and numerous conference titles. He also left a mark as a U.S. Congressman, co-introducing a trailblazing program to train Iraqi women in leadership skills, supporting a breakthrough inquiry into gambling in sports, and refusing to take PAC donations to enhance his election campaigns. His values, faith and commitment to serve have earned lasting respect from his players, other coaches, politicians on both sides of the aisle, women in Iraq, school children in Lincoln and everyday Americans.  Much has been written about his coaching exploits, but there is more.Walk with himalong the sidelines of Memorial Stadium as he recounts the highs and lows of coaching student athletes through the transition from boyhood to manhood. Join him in the U.S. Capitol on September 11, 2001, when he receives word of the terrorist attacks. Take a boat ride with him as he tries to get his wife, Nancy, to troll for salmon with him. Read with eyes wide open about his race to become governor and his return to the University of Nebraska as athletic director. Glimpse the world through Tom’s eyes as he reflects on the changes in our culture over the last 40 years, and be inspired by his hope for the future.
