Book Synopsis

David Silverberg is the worst bar mitzvah student in all of recorded history. His silent vow to scare off any bar mitzvah teachers that come his way has been successful- he has been thrown out of five Hebrew schools. But David can't help feeling bad when he sees his dad slumped over the dining room table in exasperation.

Finally, David's father takes him to the local garage where the rebellious rabbi, Reuven Weiss, fixes cars. Reuven, too, has been kicked out of a Jewish school where he used to be a teacher-but he is the Silverbergs' last hope.

This touching novel tells how Reuven and David change each other's lives and how David grows to reach his bar mitzvah.
