    Author and teacher Maja Pitamic explores the stories and meanings of 12 key masterpieces of art, presenting them as inspiration for children to create their own exciting and imaginative artworks. Covering a diverse range of media, from making a paper mosaic to drawing with charcoal, this book's 24 projects will encourage children to develop their own personal and entirely original styles.

    Designed for children ages five to eight, Art in Action 1 is the first of a two-volume set. The companion volume, Art in Action 2, presents more advanced projects and is more suitable for children ages nine through twelve.     Maja Pitamic is the author of Teach Me to Do it Myself and Child's Play, successful activity books for pre-school children that are also available in North America from Barron's. She has taught young children for more than fifteen years and holds a degree in Art History and Montessori Teacher Training.

    Mike Norris holds a Master of Arts in Classics and a Ph.D. in Medieval Art History. He has been a staff educator at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art for more than fifteen years, and currently oversees and teaches in the Met's programs for families at their main building on Fifth Avenue. He has written several Museum publications for children and teachers, and has been the historical consultant for several research guides for young readers. He is also an advisor to HBO's program for very young audiences, Classical Baby: The Art Show.
