Gabriel Josipovici is the author of short stories, critical books, and more than a dozen novels, including Everything Passes and The Singer on the Shore. His plays have been performed throughout Britain and on the radio in Britain, France, and Germany. His work has been translated into the major European languages and Arabic.
Two wildly different and wonderfully crafted novels comprise this short collection. In the first story, a young woman returning from the United States must face a maelstrom of imagination, guilt, memory, and desire. Amidst the frenzy of uncertainty that constitutes this brief novel, which is at once cold and hot, ironic and romantic, the heroine relives a nightmare from years ago. The second story is a reimagining of Mozart’s opera Così fan tutte, set in present day London. Though they could not be further apart in tone, both tales are in effect meditations on how to live life in the 21st century.
