Description:This book is set up to answer the questions parents typically have but don't always ask when visiting with healthcare professionals. The questions are grouped under broad topics such as "medication and ADHD."
Purpose:The purpose is to answer questions often not asked by parents when discussing their child's diagnosis of ADHD. These questions cover a large variety of topics that could never be covered in the time given to meet with healthcare providers. It clearly fills a need for parents and their children's healthcare providers. The book appears to have met the objective set out by the authors.
Audience:It is written for parents of children with ADHD and will be an excellent resource for students and residents learning about ADHD for the first time.
Features:The book covers 100 of the most commonly asked questions and answers about ADHD. The answers are comprehensive and for some parents may be somewhat technical. Overall the answers are complete and understandable. There are no references specifically noted but there is a large listing of resources subdivided by the type of provider of the resource (parents, drug company, etc.) The ability for parents to look up just one question they are most interested in is one of the best points of this book.
Assessment:This is an excellent resource for parents, teachers, teenage patients, and healthcare professionals in training. As our understanding of ADHD expands, a second edition will likely be needed.
