This is a very good book/CD for what it is meant for. It is not an excellent teaching source for the Arabic language. It is a great little book to browse and use for helping someone with the language. I recommend it for the traveler or someone who needs help with the basics while in an Arabic speaking country, or to use with Arab speaking friends or relatives. It has a lot to offer in its own way for helping someone along with the basics. I already know some words and phrases, so it was very helpful for me to review and learn from before I went to the Middle East, and while I was there.

If, like me, you have no intention of really mastering Arabic, but merely want to learn a few phrases to present a polite face to the locals and memorize a few important, emergency words, then this short introduction is perfect. Like the excellent "Learn in Your Car" series, it gives a short sentence in English, then repeats the same statement in Arabic, TWICE. Thank you, this helps reinforce the words. Again, for the casual traveler who wishes to extend the courtesy of exchanging pleasantries in the local language, this book and CD can't be beat.

An extremely important part of learning any language, is that for listening exercises, the voice you hear is pleasant. Both Arab and American voices on this CD are horrible and grating. Then there's the content: almost useless phrases which seem to come out of nowhere. I couldn't see the point of some of them.

The booklet, however, is much better. But the main reason I bought this was because it came with an audio CD too, hence the poor rating. The CD is just horrible.

This is not a very good and correct way to pronounce arabic. I had an Egyptian check out the pronunciation and says it was pronounced with an American accent. Also its better to try Living Language Starting Arabic, better prounciation

Enthält viele Phrasen, jedoch würde ich die Lonely Planet Phrasebooks vorziehen.
Da es allerdings zu den meisten Phrasebooks von Lonely Planet kein Audio-Material gibt,
habe ich dieses Phrasebook vorgezogen.

Die Aufnahmen sind gut, das Buch ist umfangreich.

Für jeden der mit Arabisch beginnen möchte um den Preis auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert!
