"Texas Echoes: Five Generations of Women Who Write" is one of those books that you wish you had thought of doing. It reminded me so much of my own generations of women who wrote in one form or another from keeping their journals, to writing comments on a favorite recipe. I love the flow of the poetry and the shortstories are so interesting. A very nice way to pass on stories from the past about family.

I grew up in Texas and I remember those big family dinners. After dinner the men would watch football and the ladies would talk. I must confess that as a boy, I sometimes grew tired of the game and wondered in to listen to the stories the women would tell. Texas Echoes, by Evanelle Ator Davis and her daughter Rebecca Diane Davis brings such vivid memories to life for me. The reader will see his or her own family in the pages of this book. You will read with interest (and an occasional giggle) the advice from the godly matriarch, born in 1872. I can hear my own grandmother's voice in some of the comments. On the other side, you will read excerpts from an advice column by the fifth generation Lissa, the Glamour Girl Psychologist. There are poems old and new, stories about kin folk and strangers, recollections about travels abroad and gourmet hot dogs at the Underdog restaurant in Mineral Wells, Texas. Who could resist this feast of literature served up Texas style?

I heartily recommend this book to anyone who would like to be in the room when the women of the family start talking about the good stuff. Don't miss it.
