English Newsbooks and Irish Rebellion, 1641-49 Hardcover – May 23, 2006

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 1 rating

Between 1641 and 1649 Charles I experienced either civil war or insurrection in his three kingdoms. These events also triggered a revolution in the English press world - the advent of the first weekly newsbooks to communicate domestic occurrences. This book examines how these serials reported the insurrection to their readers, and how all parties in England used news from Ireland in a paper war that accompanied armed hostilities.
