Great short stories to be pulled into between long books. Following Holmes and Watson on their way to solving a mystery is always facinating.

Having the essential Sherlock Holmes in my Kindle is always good. Perfectly well done but I do wish it had "chapters" and more of a table of context to use. (It's there at the end of every chapter, but it's harder to find.)

This is a very large collection. I listen to my Kindle "voice enabled" and it has done very well.

Ben Kingsley is actually a good narrator. This surprised me as unlike other film actors, Kingsley really can act with his voice. And he is good as both men and women. This recording includes seven (of 56) Holmes short stories, culled from "Adventures" (4) "Memoirs" (2) and "Return" (1) collections. The stories are on 4CDs running a little over 4.5 hours, with a new track about every 5 minutes. I think the recording is fresh and the audio has good sonics. Kingsley has the ability to liven the text of these century-old stories.

My experience with Holmes audio is that it's best to listen to a single story at a sitting. They each run about 20 to 30 minutes.

A Scandal in Bohemia (1891)-- the famous Irene Adler story: "Good Night, Mr. Holmes"
The Red-Headed League (1891)-- #2 on Conan Doyle's list of favorites
The Man With The Twisted Lip (1891)-- good men in an opium den
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches (1892) -- pretty nanny in an unsavoury house
The Adventure of the Crooked Man (1893)-- hmmmm, a locked door but no key...
The Adventure of the Cardboard Box (1892)-- adultery, guilt and a box
The Adventure of the Six Napoleons (1904)-- #8 on list of "Baker Street": the Mafia.

I've listened to several Sherlock Holmes stories online, and these recordings are the best. I purchased four of the six stories here on cassette back in the mid '90s or so, and never tire of them. I wish Kingsley had done more. Highly recommended.

The CDs came in good time and in good condition. I am playing them in the car on the way to work and back and enjoying the recording. Very well read indeed! And not too taxing on the brain at 7.00am.

Ben Kingsley has recorded more spoken word than I first realised. I do not find his narration as good as some others.
