Metal Swarm (Saga of Seven Suns Series) MP3 CD – Unabridged, December 10, 2007

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 443 ratings

For years, the alien Klikiss robots have pretended to be humanity’s friends, but their seeming “help” allowed them to plant an insidious Trojan Horse throughout the Earth Defense Forces. Now, in the aftermath of a devastating war, swarms of ancient black robots built by the lost insectoid Klikiss race continue their depredations on helpless worlds with stolen and heavily armed Earth battleships.

Among the humans, the Hansas’ brutal Chairman struggles to crush any resistance even as King Peter breaks away to form his own new Confederation among the colonies who have declared their independence.

And meanwhile, the original, voracious Klikiss race, long thought to be extinct, has returned, intent on conquering their former worlds and willing to annihilate anyone in the way.

“Rapid-fire action and panoramic plotting make this a first-class space opera.” —Library Journal

Yes, I have a lot of books, and if this is your first visit to my amazon author page, it can be a little overwhelming. If you are new to my work, let me recommend a few titles as good places to start. My major new fantasy trilogy (all finished!) consists of SPINE OF THE DRAGON, VENGEWAR and GODS AND DRAGONS. My newest Dune novel with Brian Herbert is THE HEIR OF CALADAN, end of a new trilogy. I also love my Dan Shamble, Zombie P.I. series—newest one is DOUBLE-BOOKED— humorous horror/mysteries, which begin with DEATH WARMED OVER. My steampunk fantasy adventures, CLOCKWORK ANGELS, CLOCKWORK LIVES, and CLOCKWORK DESTINY, written with Neil Peart, legendary drummer from Rush, are some of my very favorite novels ever. And my magnum opus, the science fiction epic The Saga of Seven Suns, begins with HIDDEN EMPIRE. After you've tried those, I hope you'll check out some of my other series.

I have written more than 175 books, including 59 national or international bestsellers. I have over 24 million books in print worldwide in thirty languages. I've been nominated for the Nebula Award, Hugo Award, Bram Stoker Award, Shamus Award, and Silver Falchion Award, and I've won the SFX Readers' Choice Award, Golden Duck Award, Scribe Award, and New York Times Notable Book; in 2012 at San Diego Comic Con I received the Faust Grand Master Award for Lifetime Achievement.

I have written numerous bestselling and critically acclaimed novels in the Dune universe with Brian Herbert, as well as Star Wars and X-Files novels. In my original work, I am best known for my Saga of Seven Suns series, the Terra Incognita trilogy, the Dan Shamble, Zombie PI series, and Clockwork Angels and Clockwork Lives with Neil Peart. Along with my wife Rebecca Moesta, I am also the publisher of WordFire Press. Find out more about me at wordfire.com, where you can sign up for my newsletter and get some free fiction.

I just finished "Metal Swarm", the sixth installment of Kevin J. Anderson's "Saga of Seven Suns" space epic, and I'm still very much enjoying the series. Maybe not "count the seconds until the next volume" enjoyment, but enjoyment nonetheless. My favorite among the many plot threads is the one involving the constant power struggle between the Chairman and the King for control of the human empire. I also like the related threads where human leaders, both in the military and in the bureaucracy, have to pick sides in the Chairman/King schism. Fun stuff. One volume short of the conclusion, however, there's still quite a bit in play. It's hard to believe things will be wrapped up in just one more book. Well, I'll be there to see how Mr. Anderson does it.

"The Saga of Seven Suns" is highly recommended for fans of old school space opera. It has the pace and flavor of the "Star Wars" films, but very much its own star-spanning story. Dive into the first volume, "Hidden Empire", and you'll have months of fun in store as you move through each fast-paced installment. And by the time you get to the last volume, "The Ashes of Worlds", it'll be out and ready to be read!

I have enjoyed The Saga of the Seven Suns through all of the books. Every one seems to get better and better. I was so axious to get this one that I pre-ordered it twice :> (oops). I read it over a few days and I have to say that I was extremely disappointed that the book wasnt another 1000 pages. Keven Anderson is one of the most talented science fiction writers of our time. He easily can be compared to Asimov and other old greats. Putting the book down is near impossible and then you have to wait until the next comes out. There is one more in this series and I cannot wait to read it. I can't recommend this series and this books more.

I've read the 5 previous books and the 6th (Metal Swarm ) doesn't disappoint. You either love this series or you hate it. No in between.

I like it because it's like reading 4 or 5 books all in one. A long book that is made up of intertwining short stories.

It takes a long time for the plot to develop and that is why some people do hate this series. After all we live in a society of instant gratification.

My suggestion, pick up the first in the series and read 20 pages in the bookstore. Either it'll grab you and I'll see you on book 6 in no time or it won't and no worries.

This book is consistent with it's predecessors. It's well written, the characters well developed, and fairly unique in the world it describes. However, is anything ever going to happen in these books? They drag on and on...becoming boring in parts when Anderson spends so much time on one small scenario. These books have been compared to Frank Herbert's Dune series. That's absurd. More happened, with a much greater level of excitement, in the single first Dune novel, than ALL of these installments of the Saga. As with the Ildiran story that this series refers to, it's a never ending story.....which might be positive in some ways, but is growing increasingly frustrating as this current installment grinds on...and on.....and on....

I wasn't sure what to think when I began the sixth volume of Anderson's epic saga. Book 5, Of Fire and Night, resolved many story arcs and plots that had been thickening throughout the first several volumes.

Upon finishing, all my doubts were gone. Anderson did an incredible job continuing the story and weaving in new plot lines. The faeros and klikiss are convincing and destructive new threats, and King Peter's new confederation is probably the most exciting development. Some story arcs bored me, but there are so many exciting ones as well! (and each chapter is only about 3 pages) In particular, the account of the colonists on Llaro is particularly engrossing.

Metal Swarm is as exciting and grand as its predecessors in many ways. More than anything, Anderson has set the series up for a grand finish. The seventh volume, The Ashes of Worlds, is due out in July.

The Saga of the Seven Suns is one of those expansive Sci-Fi universes that just sucks you in. I have heard a few negative people complain that it was not realistic in some way. That is possible in fiction. I had no problem suspending my disbelief and diving into the well developed characters and massive story. If you enjoy a big space opera, put this on your list!

One of the names for the area of Space they are in is The Spiral Arm and that is a perfect word to describe these works, for a spiral can continue on for a very long time and you can roll forward or backward to find the threads that make it great.

It was riveting. Fully engrossing. I could not put it down. Many of the characters are oh so endearing; some are even sickening and scary . . . all in a grand way of course. :) Mr. Anderson keep it up. I look forward to the films that undoubtable will follow. The Metal Swarm coming to your home soon . . . surely . . . if you love Sci-fi . . . you may just like Mr. Anderson's series of books.

This is the 6th in a series of 7 books. It is the most engaging and imaginative science fiction I have ever read, and I have been an SF devotee for 50 years. Three of us have been reading the series and we all agree, you cannot put each book down once started. For serious readers of future off-world fiction, do start at book 1, its essential. Each book builds upon the previous while introducing utterly unexpected plot and character development. Characters are realistic and multi-faceted, painted in detail by the author who cleverly interweaves their tales. The book takes the reader into the heart of several complex alien cultures: by book 6, seven exotic races have been introduced, both allied and opposing humans, plus 3 methods of inter-stellar travel. Humans themselves have colonised many planets, each with their own culture and suffered a major schism with the space-travelling Roamer clans. If you like good SF, as opposed to simplistic stuff where the hero always wins, then this series is a "must-read". Metal Swarm (Saga of Seven Suns 6)

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable space opera

To get the best out of this novel you should read the previous volumes of the saga first. Nevertheless, the author does provide a quick catch up on the plot so far and the history of the main characters. This is not, and presumably was never intended to be, a saga that stretches the mind. There are no deep or challenging ideas. Yet it is an enjoyable relaxing read. In science fiction there is a place for stories like this just as in mainstream fiction westerns (cowboys, etc.) may juxtapose with the perceptive writing of Jane Austen.

I've just completed the Saga of Seven Suns and loved it.
I was swept along by the wonderful characters and great storylines.
Anderson is one of those writers who gets the people and pictures firmly into your head so when you pick up the story again - they're there ...
Complex, but not confusing, the stories romp along pulling you into a real world of a sci-fi future.
Well knitted multiple storylines kept me engaged and entertained and I loved it.
