The New York Times bestseller by Famous Minor Television Personality John Hodgman—The Daily Show's "Resident Expert" and the "PC" in the iconic Apple ads—picks up exactly where his first book left off. In fact, "the new volume is in every way a continuation of Areas of My Expertise, except in the ways it's clearly superior." (The Onion AV Club)

In 2005, John Hodgman published his first compendium of Complete World Knowledge,
The Areas of My Expertise, a handy volume of fake trivia and made-up facts. Hodgmania was born. Virtually overnight, John Hodgman was whisked from tweedy obscurity to the high ether of minor celebrity. And from his strange new vantage point as a Famous Minor Television Personality, Hodgman realized that there is some world knowledge yet to be documented. And so he returned to exactly where he had left off—namely, page 256 of the paperback edition of The Areas of My Expertise. And he brought with him: MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU REQUIRE. Which, naturally, begins on page 257. Like its predecessor, More Information Than You Require consists of brief articles, overlong lists, frighteningly complex charts, and beguiling narratives on new and familiar themes such as:

THE PAST (because there is always more of it)
THE FUTURE (because they say there is still some left)
MOLE-MEN (including a list of 700 Mole-man names)
GAMBLING, THE SPORT OF THE ATHSMATIC MAN (including hermit crab racing)
CRYPTOGEOGRAPHY (including Canada)
HOW TO BE A FAMOUS MINOR TELEVISION PERSONALITY (Hint: Go on television)

AND NOW, the relatively pocket-sized and inexpensive paperback edition includes even
more.

MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU REQUIRE
, updated to include the very latest in implausibility.

PLUS!: This paperback edition includes a special self-expanding fold-out edition of THE TAXONOMY OF COMPLETE WORLD KNOWLEDGE, which you have probably never seen before because it has been carefully hidden. UNTIL NOW.

Look out for John Hodgman's latest book, Vacationland, available from Viking in Fall 2017.

About the Author

John Hodgman is a writer, comedian, and actor. He is the author of three New York Times bestselling books—The Areas of My ExpertiseMore Information Than You Require, and That Is All. After an appearance to promote his books on The Daily Show, he was invited to return as a contributor, serving as the show’s "Resident Expert" and "Deranged Millionaire." This led to an unexpected and, frankly, implausible career before the camera. He has performed comedy for the president of the United States, at a TED conference, and in a crypt in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. Finally, he is the host of the popular Judge John Hodgman podcast, in which he settles serious disputes between real people, such as "Is a hot dog a sandwich?" and "Should we tell our children the TRUTH about Santa Claus?" He also contributes a weekly column under the same name for The New York Times Magazine. He is currently working on a memoir, Vacationland, which will be published in October 2017.

This book struck me as much funnier than the "prequel" the Areas of My Expertise. His tone remains droll and matter-of-fact, and the information is of the same ilk, but the subject matter (mole men are funnier and not as omnipresent as hobos) is better and he seems to have embraced the hilarity possible more fully and likely worked a little harder on getting it right. I am envious of his creativity and his ability to stretch the truth just enough to have it seem plausible while also seeming completely absurd. He had to do some homework to get it this good. The daily calendar is genius, especially the meteorologic competition between Milwaukee and Richmond. Great for a laugh at any opportunity.

I wouldn't have thought it possible, but this product is even funnier, and more, than "The Areas of My Expertise."
The product information is incorrect. This product is actually 13 CD's.
I was delighted to receive an unexpected 4-CD surplus of Hodgmanian comedy concentrate.
Also included is an audio page-a-day calendar.
If you're a fan of comedy, like to laugh, enjoy things that are funny, or you just want to feel cool because of something you bought, this product is absolutely essential.
Additionally, Paul Rudd fans, Rachel Maddow completists, Dick Cavett historians, Sarah Vowell stalkers, Ira Glass scholars, and those who can tolerate Ricky Gervais, Zach Galifianakis, Robin Goldwasser or Paul F. Tompkins should feel a strong impulse to gather and own this product.

Another great, nonsensical book from Hodgman. Full of that strange milieu of self-effacing humor and outright lies stated convincingly as fact, the book picks up exactly where the first left off, and just continues the hilarity (although I'm pretty sure they got a "spine camera" into this book). If this is your first encounter with John Hodgman's brand of comedy I suggest that you go and get the first book and read it now. Buy them together if you wish! Or buy them separately and do not tell either book that you have read the other as it then may have a preconceived notion of what you will think of it and then will begin to have performance anxiety and then may render itself illegible. In the immortal words of the author, "That is all."

I bought the audio version of this book instead of the paper version because of the Added Extra Awesome. I don't tend to get audio books, as I don't tend to spend that much time in the car or, I don't know, alone in my house or wherever you normally listen to audio books. But, we received Hodgman's other book on CD as a gift (after purchasing, reading, and getting signed the paper one) and it is so chock ful of extra hilarity that we decided to get this one in Pure Audio. Guests: funny. Hodg-voice-tone: extra funny. Teaching my 5 year old to shout "Were You Aware Of It?" in an echo-ey voice: also good.

The genius of John Hodgman, both in this book and in his earlier book and in his appearances on the television's Daily Show (But not in his appearances shilling the overrated computers of a certain company) is that his expert stance is not entirely made-up. His two books show a lot of originality and a lot of mental work, which the man should be commended for, but the key here is that he uses actual facts and events as tangent points for his often laugh-out-loud points (and really self-consciously out loud not internet `lol' -don't read this on the bus if easily embarrassed). His using real-world referents makes the book one big in-joke that you may or may not get but when it hits it is golden. A big caveat for this text though is that he is more self-indulgent than before - he gets a lot/way too much mileage out of his status as a minor television personality. In the same vein, where in the last book he was obsessed with Hobos to the point where it was distracting and he even listed some 700 hobo names, here he does the same with mole-men. Again, there is a long list of names only this time it is for mole-men. Having learned my lesson I just scanned then skipped around and then skipped entirely. I suggest you do the opposite for this book.

Hodgman's quirky sense of humor provides welcome relief from the problems of the day. It's goofy in all the right places. It's not a book designed for reading straight through in a single sitting, but one that you pick up, randomly choose a section, and prepare to smile. I really enjoyed it.

If you liked the first book (as I did), you will like the second one. It's neither more of the same, nor is it so much of a departure that fans of the first book will be let down. All in all, just a funny guy with a totally unique writing style. So rest assured, if you are worried about the sophmore effort, don't be - it's as hysterically weird as the first.

I love John Hodgman's first book and was very excited to read this one but found it to be disappointing. Maybe I've become jaded to the idea of an almanac made of entirely false facts but I felt like this book was trying harder and falling flatter than the first. If you like his previous work it's probably worth it to check this out, but don't worry if you don't like it.

When your first book is the compendium of complete world knowledge you don't leave yourself a lot of wiggle room for a follow up. Luckily for us the first book introduced John to the larger world as a his alter egos of PC in the Apple adverts and his sporadic role as a Daily Show correspondent. So there is now more knowledge or us to enjoy (like "How to become a minor TV celebrity.) This book is very much a follow up to the first (  The Areas of My Expertise: A Compendium of Complete World Knowledge Compiled with Instructive Annotation and Arranged in Useful Order by Myself ) if you have yet to read it then its worth reading in order just so you can make sure you get a history of hobo culture (the first book) and of the mole men (this one)
