An empowering book with photos, notes, and true stories about an underground campaign to recognize the true beauty within every woman.

Tired of watching women pick themselves apart in front of the mirror, blogger Caitlin Boyle scribbled a note on a Post-it: "YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!" and slapped it on the mirror of a public bathroom. With one small act, she kick-started a movement. In a matter of days, women were undertaking their own feats of resistance, posting uplifting notes on gym lockers, diet shakes in supermarkets, weight-loss guides in bookstores, and anywhere else a nagging voice of self-criticism might lurk. Emboldening and contagious, the "operation" has attracted widespread attention from the media, including the
New York Daily News and salon.com.

Operation Beautiful showcases the notes women have posted around the world and the stories behind them, along with interviews, interesting research findings, and tips for improving one's outlook on life. Blending a confessional tone with gutsy observations about redefining beauty, the chapters address key issues for women of all ages, including Fighting Fat Talk, Family and Friends, Food, Fitness, Faith, and Going Forward. In the scrapbook tradition of PostSecret and Davy Rothbart's Found, Operation Beautiful is filled with black-and-white photos and a two-color design, making it the perfect gift for any friend, sister, daughter, or niece.

Caitlin Boyle, the blogger behind www.HealthyTippingPoint.com and www.OperationBeautiful.com, began blogging in 2008. Caitlin had worked as a freelance writer and technical writer for seven years, but in September 2009, she resigned from her corporate job to write a book based on Operation Beautiful.

Caitlin writes a daily food and fitness blog, Healthy Tipping Point, which chronicles how Caitlin balances her busy lifestyle with healthy eating and exercise. Readers relate to her “Everywomen” experiences and enjoy her 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon race recaps. Caitlin utilizes her personal blog as a way to encourage other women to stay healthy and active and seeks to remind readers that there the “healthy ideal” looks different for every woman.

Operation Beautiful originally began on Healthy Tipping Point. In June 2009, Caitlin was inspired to post a note that simply read “You Are Beautiful!” in a public restroom. She took a picture of her note and posted it on Healthy Tipping Point. The response from her readers was instantaneous, and Caitlin’s e-mail was flooded with photographs of notes posted all over the country. Within two days, Caitlin knew she had a phenomenon on her hands and launched the blog Operation Beautiful.

Caitlin is 26 years old and lives in Orlando, Florida with her husband and her two dogs. In addition to blogging, her other writing experience includes a five-year stint as a contributing columnist for The Wall Street Journal Classroom Edition. Caitlin attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Non-Fiction Creative Writing.

I first stumbled across Operation Beautiful's website through a marathon blog and I was so blown away by the enthusiasm, compassion and camaraderie that jumps out at you. After following the site for a few weeks, I decided to buy the book and I'm so glad that I did.

This book goes into the heart of what started and carries this movement. For me, it felt like I found a community of strong likeminded women who understand what I am going through. I'll admit that there were a few chapters where I started crying. I felt for so long that I had to suffer alone and so reading about others going through the same thing and coming out of it with more confidence and a sense of deserving really touched me.

There are a lot of different subjects that the book goes into and I believe that every single one of them is important and collectively makes this book a well rounded read for any adolescent and adult. Regardless of what area in your life you are struggling with, there is something new to read and some insight to gain from reading all sections of the book. What I really enjoyed about the book was the combination of personal accounts and the practical steps towards healing, loving yourself and others.

Beautiful book. Beautiful concept. I have begun leaving notes on bathroom mirrors and in "self improvement" books at bookstores and the library. My daughters and their friends have started doing the same thing at their high school. It's a simple thing to do, makes YOU feel great (a little bit daring!) and, hopefully, delivers a well-timed message to someone out there who needs it. The book has cool stories, photos of notes left all over the world and ideas for what to leave and where. Would make a great gift for your daughter, Mother, wife or that person in your life who's always looking for ways to make a difference.

I mainly bought this book because I loved that it would contain many post-it-notes and positive mantras in order to help us all become happier within ourselves. However I didn't realise how it had so much more than quotes, post-its and sayings. It really is such an amazing book and whether you are happy or sad about yourself anyone can benefit from this book. So inspiring!

I really enjoy this book and use it as a pick-me-up when life sucks! I have even been motivated to leave a few notes myself. The fact is, you never know when someone might need your little pep talk-on-a-sticky and what's wrong with spreading some cheer once in a while?

I love Caitlin and I love this book. Her message is simple and straightforward, but its impact is powerful-- Love yourself just the way you are and you'll radiate true beauty. I recommend this book (and her blog) for anyone sick of yo-yo dieting, negative self image and the pressure to reach "perfection".

I have been following Caitlin's blog for over a year and have enjoyed her progress with this Operation Beautiful book. However, I wasn't sure how much I would like the book because I thought it would be page after page of the same thing. I decided to buy the book and am so glad that I did. I have a better appreciation of OB and the message that it gives to all women in the world. A definite buy for your sister, mother, daughter, or friend!

Fabulous -- here's a book written by a skinny girl who has never struggled with her weight telling us we can all feel empowered simply by leaving and finding sticky notes that tell us we're beautiful.
I have been anorexic. I have been obese. And I can tell you that it is absolutely ridiculous and juvenile to suggest that someone deep in the grips of an eating disorder, or someone who truly feels horrible about the way they look, will just magically feel better by reading a positive sticky note left by a total stranger.
