This a great book for teachers!

I teach early elementary at a school that places great emphasis on oral storytelling and multicultural traditions, and this collection of stories and story related activities is easily one of the best out there. There are stories from all over the world, with a variety of themes, morals, tones, complexity, and purpose. Some stories are lighthearted and whimsical and provide much laughter both to the kids and to myself, while others are more serious with important lessons that we all can learn from.
As diverse and rich as the stories are, the activities and suggestions that are included for each story are surprisingly enjoyable and actually worth doing. Frequently, post story suggestions in books like this feel like afterthoughts, but the activities in this collection- which include pre-reading and post-reading activities- provide excellent opportunities to expand on the details and themes of each story. Story Skeletons are provided for quick reference for oral storytelling, fingerplay illustrations, suggestions for acting out stories, literacy connections, and more.
After checking this b0ok out from the library repeatedly, I finally broke down and bought it. It is one of my favorite resources and my students, year after year, love all that we do in connection with it.
