Historically speaking, new worldviews have been responsible for causing major social transformations, says futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard. It occurred in the Renaissance when the idea of progress through knowledge was born. It happened in the United States when the principles of democracy and freedom became institutions. Conscious Evolution comes under the heading of millennium books. As Hubbard describes, "It sets forth a vision of the vast transformational enterprise of the next millennium, and it seeks to discover the design of evolution inherent in all nature with which we can consciously cooperate to guide our actions. " She continues by describing how we can make a conscious transition from high technology, polluting and overpopulation to a system that fulfills our potential. In precise detail she reports where we've been, where we are, and where we're going. It's a positive book-one about doing There's a chapter on what we can do now and how to accomplish it. The last portion of the book has names, addresses and descriptions of resources to implement that action. Barbara Marx Hubbard has been called "the voice for conscious evolution of our time" by Deepak Chopra and is the subject of Neale Donald Walsch's book "The Mother of Invention."

A world-renowned visionary futurist, evolutionary educator and inspiring speaker, Barbara is the author of six acclaimed books that communicate the new worldview of conscious evolution. She is the co-founder and chair of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution, and additionally co-founded many progressive organizations, including The Association for Global New Thought, as well as The World Future Society.

In 1984 her name was placed in nomination for the vice presidency of the United States on the Democratic ticket with the campaign theme "To Fulfill the Dream, a Campaign for a Positive Future."

She is the producer and narrator of the award-winning documentary series entitled Humanity Ascending: A New Way through Together and is currently co-producing with The Shift Network a global multi-media event entitled, "Birth 2012: Co-Creating a Planetary Shift in Time" on Dec. 22, 2012. This event aims to unify 100 million people worldwide in coherence and social synergy to birth a new "evolved" era and "universal humanity." Barbara writes of the awakening awareness which is occurring all around the globe. Millions of people are aware of many changes signaling what many call the "quantum leap" to a higher consciousness that will propel the human race into the next millennium. When enough humans reach the critical mass necessary, then higher planes of existence will come in to play.

Barbara is positive and uplifting with her words, and she is doing as Don Miguel Ruiz writes in his book, The Four Agreements: "Being Impeccable With Our Word." She chooses to paint a picture of what can be if we only think and act in a unitive manner, and create our world the way we desire. Well done Barbara!

I found this book to be a very useful survey of the apparently large numbers of people who are seeking solutions for a more equitable world. Looking at our future through the lens of evolution and taking the long view tends to show us that evolutionary trends rooted in negentropic or the anti-entropic forces of a multi-dimensional universe are having a profound affect and subsequent effect on the thinking of many people. My only disagreement with the book is that it fails to dialogue with one of the most important negentropic forces available to humankind--the power of virtue or human excellence. Imagine talking about conscious evolution and not one word about virtue or even self-restraint. Despite these notable omissions, this book is an excellent resource for anyone thinking about the future.
