A must have for any bamboo maker. Chock full of many usefull illustrations of tools and rod building/ evaluation of tapers. Detailed diagrams of how to build equipment that would have saved me a ton of time over the years. I would get both gould books and either the lovely reed or fundementals of building a bamboo fly rod if I was just starting out. A 5th book is waynes book followed by the Masters guide to building a bamboo fly rod.

If you want to build fly rods this book is essential. There are other books out there than delve deeper into the actual building process, but the collection of tapers is worth the price alone.

This is a great book for someone who a) plans on building a bamboo rod, 2) WANTS to build a bamboo rod, or 3) admires bamboo rods..

Gould is an engineer by trade and a master rod builder...If it were me, I would fuss a bit about some of rod choices he has built..(I am enamoured of the the longer rods...)but except for the this purely personal crictism, this is an excellent book...

I'm a beginner in bamboo rod building, and this book looks to be quite a nice addition to the knowledge I've culled elsewhere. I had hoped it would have more information than it does, but like has been said by others the best part of this book is the taper collection.

This is without a doubt one of the best books on bamboo rod construction and repair I have ever read. It is full of excellent line drawings and color photos with well written explanations to back them up. This is a must have if cane rods is something you are interested in.

An excellent companion to other rodmaking guides. Not a stand-alone book in that it won't guide you through the entire rodmaking process......it isn't intended to. What it does provide is additional info you'll find invaluable as you go and develop.

I read this book and realized that the information inside is a wealth of historic dimensions that allow the regular homebuilder to recreate classic tapers of Grainger, Payne, Leonard, and others including Orvis (Wes Jordan Era) and others.

Definately worth the money. A must buy for anyone wanting to build their own bamboo fly rod.
