Portrait of the Dog as a Young Artist: Art from scratch, by the world's preeminent canine painter Paperback – August 15, 2006

3.0 3.0 out of 5 stars 3 ratings

Tillie (or Tillamook Cheddar, as formally named) is a Jack Russell Terrier from Brooklyn, New York. She is widely regarded as the world's preeminent canine artist. In her native New York she's had several solo exhibitions in addition to her other highly acclaimed gallery shows in Los Angeles, Belgium, Milan, and Amsterdam. Her first solo exhibition, "Dog Tag," was held when she was a mere nine months old. Her second, "Portraits and Landscapes," established Tillamook’s reputation among the critics of New York’s art world. Portrait of the Dog as a Young Artist is a tongue-in-cheek retrospective collection of photographs depicting the life and art of Tillamook Cheddar with light descriptive text from the artist’s "assistant" – Bowman Hastie.

This is a mind boggling tale and fun to read. It's strickly a 'tongue in cheek' chatter. It's too fantastic to be believeable?? It's a clever canine that is just very clever and really smart. At least she was not accused of giving lectures..But you know she was one loved little dog.

Just saw Tillie in action on Conan O'Brien last night, and it is really amazing what a true artist this little pup has become. The story of her life and work in Portrait of the Dog as a Young Artist should serve as inspiration to dogs (and cats) everywhere that they, too, can find fulfillment in art and create work that can stand alongside such modern masters as Pollack and De Kooning. A true collectible for dog lovers and art fans!!!

I thought this was (not sure why) a book on making dog portraits, twas not. This is a book of pictures of scratches made by a dog! Nice picture on the front though!
