GOLGOTHA takes us from the capture of Jesus at Gethsemane to his physical death on the cross, and everywhere in between. Andrew C. Skinner has done a tremendous amount of research--of the scriptures, of the words of ancient and modern prophets, and of religious scholars of various Christian faiths. The result is a highly illuminating, informative, spiritual, and well-written work that I recommend to anyone with a desire to know more about the atoning sacrifice of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ
I also gained an understanding and an appreciation for how different Christian denominations view the crucifixion. Skinner includes many quotes and references from Latter-day Saint leaders as well as other Christian leaders and historians. Skinner also references many other religious historians such as the Jewish historian Josephus. This was very helpful for me to truly understand how the crucifixion is seen and revered across different religious groups.
I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who wants to learn more about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Reading this book has taught me so much, things that I otherwise would not have known. The things I learned from this book have taught me more about the Savior and have helped me draw closer to him.
This book goes into great detail about the events and people present in Christ’s final hours in mortality. I really enjoyed the insights about the denial of Peter being inconsistent with his character throughout the entire New Testament. It describes the potential of being commanded to deny Christ so that the church could survive. In the trial before Caiaphas and Pilate this book goes into great detail about many of the illegalities of the situation and also shows that Christ was in fact divine. In the face of all the opposition he held true to his character and it was the high priests were committing many of the crimes that they were accusing Jesus of. There are a lot of interesting insights that are given on location and manner of animal sacrifice that parallel the crucifixion exactly. This book really helped me come closer to Christ. It uses excellent resources and gives a deeper background to Golgotha.
