Review

I love the look of scrappy geometric quilts, yet as a new quilter I have a hard time creating that look with my relatively modest fabric stash. This is where precut fabric packs come in. Charm Packs and Layer Cakes (we call them Stacks here at Connecting Threads) are perfect for making quilts that look colorful and scrappy, and they are great time savers too! In Schnibbles Times Two, Carrie Nelson has included loads of fantastic quilt patterns that use these fun and time-saving precuts. Each pattern is shown using 10" squares and 5" squares. Not only does that make for two different size options, but it means that quilters get to see each pattern in two different color combinations--something that is always very helpful for me when choosing a project. I'm excited to get started with the Stacks and Charms I've collected in my stash--now I just have to decide on which pattern! --connectingthreads.com

Charm packs and layer cakes are the focus of this book . . . Carrie explains how they are best used, how many to buy, those pinked edges, and the warp. There are 12 patterns, each of them done in 5" squares and 10" squares. The book features lots of clever ideas for pretty and colorful quilts. I'm still not sold on these packs, but love the book. I think I'll cut my squares from my stash! --Stick Your Nose in a Book: Quilting Book Reviews by Jennifer Zoeterman

About the Author

Just in case you don't already know this about Miss Rosie's Quilt Company, Rosie is Carrie Nelson's golden retriever. Carrie gives her top billing because she says she's prettier and nicer. At 10 years old, Rosie is a little bit less dignified than she'd like you to believe. A quilt isn't really a quilt until she's rolled around and slept on it. She still inspects every bag, box, and package that comes into the house, especially those boxes of fabric from Moda, since they're addressed to her anyway.

While Rosie isn't much of a quilter, she's an excellent quilting teacher. Her "golden rules" are simple: Play every day and enjoy it to the fullest. Jump into everything with unabashed enthusiasm and a passion for what you're doing. Don't worry about what anybody else thinks; as long as you're happy and having fun, that truly is the only thing that matters. And no matter what, always be open to new adventures, new ideas, and new challenges.

Pretty and smart! No wonder it's her name on the company logo.

I just made the "short story" baby quilt using charm packs. It is adorable. I used Moda Playtime 30's reproduction fabric. The pattern looks hard because of all the little pieces, but was really very simple. Instead of working with tiny triangles, she used the square triangle ruler to create the tiny triangles from two rectangles that had been sewn together. She also gave detailed instructions on where to place the ruler which helped make matching seams a cinch. The only thing I didn't like was that the Charm versions of the quilts (she has Layer Cake versions and Charm versions for each quilt) were smaller than I like for baby quilts. Short Story was only 33 inches. I added an extra row on two adjacent sides to make it about 36 inches. It is still a little smaller than I like making for gifts. Just keep in mind that you may want a larger quilt if using the charm packs and will need an extra charm pack. Overall this book has some nice patterns for using with Layer Cake and Charm pack precuts and directions were accurate and detailed.

Most quilting books in my collection have a few or even several patterns that I want to make. I just got this book and I love every single design in the book. The one thing I would add to the other reviews is that these are not quilts that can be made with one layer cake or one charm pack. All of them require at least 65 squares, so they will require two layer cakes (and will have squares left over). If you are looking for a book that has designs that can be made from one layer cake or charm pack, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for beautiful, creative patterns and don't mind using one and a half layer cakes -- leaving some layers for other projects -- then this is a wonderful book. I am looking forward to all the projects.

I have enjoyed this book, making 3 of the projects so far. I love and made the one on the cover. I dont find it out of the ordinary when it comes to books on quilting, but did find it well put together, with good instructions and inspirational pictures. This is one book I do think I will make more of its projects.

Since receiving the book, I have pieced one of the quilts - a large Plan C. The materials list was complete. The instructions were well organized and easy to follow. There were good instructions on a new (to me) technique for the "flying geese" blocks which was easy and resulted in perfect points. For every pattern, there are directions for a large size and a small size. I have already picked out another pattern that I want to do. Another nice point - the materials are based on buying charm packs and layer cakes, which makes it really easy to buy and cut a number of coordinating fabrics.

I have made Schnibbles patterns before and, after doing some research, noticed that I could get several patterns in this book for the price of three or four little patterns so I took the plunge and ordered the book without knowing exactly which patterns were inside. I'm happy to report I was not disappointed at all. There are lots of great patterns and each has an option for a 5" charm or a 10" layer cake version. The quilts are all well photographed and the instructions are very detailed. I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend this book to any quilter.

Love the book after reading I went and got about enough fabric to make 4 of the quilts can't wait would recommend the book to others as I think it would be easy for them to follow and doesn't use a lot of fabric, good use for smaller pieces. Plan to order different ones they have to. Thank you.

Interessante Arbeiten sind hier zu sehen und verführen zum Nähen und Ausprobieren! Könnte ich mir gut als Geschenk für eine Freundin vorstellen, die ebenfalls gerne Kleinigkeiten näht.
