4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 11 ratings

Poul Jorgensen is perhaps America’s best known fly tier. Poul is a perfectionist as a tier, and his flies are collected by people around the world just as are the works of any other artist. Poul is also an innovator whose fly tying creations have added immensely to the sport of flyfishing. His books are treasures, storehouses of his many years of experience as a fly tier and flyfisherman. This long-awaited book, "Poul Jorgensen’s Book of Fly Tying," joins his other landmark books, "Dressing Flies for Fresh and Salt Water," "Modern Dressings for the Practical Angler," and "Salmon Flies: Their Character, Style, and Dressing," to create a life work greater than that of any other author of fly tying books.

This is the first book to buy when you're starting to tie flies. It illustrates the basics in simple detail, and covers a wide variety of patterns to keep you fishing through the seasons.

This is a must read book for the beginner. It tells all about the tools needed for tying. It talks about hooks tying materials. Then goes on about the fly types from nymph , mayfly. caddis, stone flies and streamers. It talks about salmon flies, terrestrials, bass bugs and salt water flies.

The chapter I liked was the one on beginner tying practice. I have been tying flies for thirty years and I relearned stuff that I had forgotten about, not too mention the fly patterns in this book.

This book is a MUST have in any tier's library.

theis is a great book. it is simple and staightforward. Poul doesn't assume you know everything when you start, so he explains all the details without talking down to you. Tom
