Flowers on Main: A Chesapeake Shores Novel (Chesapeake Shores Series) MP3 CD – Unabridged, October 1, 2010

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 2,356 ratings

When her last two plays are dismal failures and her relationship with her temperamental mentor falls apart, writer Bree O’Brien abandons Chicago and the regional theater where she hoped to make a name for herself to return home. Opening Flowers on Main promises to bring her a new challenge and a new kind of fulfillment.

But not all is peaceful and serene in Chesapeake Shores, with her estranged mother on the scene and her ex-lover on the warpath. Jake Collins has plenty of reasons to want Bree out of his life, but none of those are a match for the one reason he wants her to stay: he’s still in love with her.

Jake might be able to get past that old hurt if he knew Bree was home to stay, but is she? The only way to know for sure is to take a dangerous leap of faith.

“Woods…is noted for appealing character-driven stories that are often infused with the flavor and fragrance of the South.” ―Library Journal

With her roots firmly planted in the South, Sherryl Woods has written many of her more than 100 books in that distinctive setting, whether her home state of Virginia, her adopted state, Florida, or her much-adored South Carolina. She's also especially partial to small towns wherever they may be. In Amazing Gracie, as in her later Trinity Harbor series, Woods creates a fictional version of the town where she spends summers on the shores of the Potomac River. "This town just lends itself to fascinating characters and a charming locale," she says.

A member of Novelists Inc., Sisters in Crime and Romance Writers of America, Sherryl divides her time between her childhood summer home overlooking the Potomac River in Colonial Beach, Virginia, and her oceanfront home with its lighthouse view, in Key Biscayne, Florida. "Wherever I am, if there's no water in sight, I get a little antsy," she says.

I liked the characters and the plots and subplots intertwining within the book. However the ending seemed to sneak up on me. I wasn't expecting it yet.

It was good, but left me a bit frustrated. Not her best book, but still a very good read. I guess I just wanted more.

WARNING.....MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!!!

Jake and Bree literally spent most of the book in just one fight after another. And then just when you finally think that Jake and Bree would quit fighting and start actually loving one another, they would have another fight and would not talk to each other for days. They even fought less than two minutes after having sex. Unbelievable!!! And then just when things were finally getter a bit better, the book ends. No epilogue, no letting the readers know if they ever actually got married.....NOTHING!!! He proposes, and then it ends. Sure, I guess if you want to get tecnical, there was a HEA of sorts, just not my idea of a good HEA. The ending just felt way too rushed.

The story went back and forth between the broken relatioship between Bree & Jake, and her divorced parents, MIck & Megan trying to fix their troubled past---- which was okay----but I wanted more of Jack & Bree's story. I wondered why the author would bring Kevin back from over seas with a new wife in hand one minute, and then completely ignored the whole situation the next.

I did however like the closeness and dynamic's of the O'Brien family. I absolutely loved Abby's twins.

I also thought that about Jack, his sister,Caroline... and his neice,Jenny too. I have three daughters of my own---completely grown with their own teenage horrors of their own---so I could completely relate to Caroline's situation. Boys are easy, but girls???? you're lucky if you survive those teenage years unscathed.

And I loved how Jack, Will, and Mack always had each other to lean on in both the good times, and the bad.

I have read so many of Sherryl Woods books in the past, and this is the first time she's left me frustrated like this. But the fact that she can actually make me feel so strongly tells me she's the great author I've admired for years, otherwise I wouldn't have cared about any of these characters at all, right?

Sherryl Woods is a fantastic writer. I purchased all of her Chesapeake Shores books from Amazon and I am reading them in order. Romance novels give you such a good feeling. This is one of my favorites from the series. Story is predictable but not boring. A friend suggested I read these before Hallmark started showing the Chesapeake Shores series. So happy I did! Haven't read them all yet but I warn you. Once you start reading, it is hard to stop. Love is a beautiful thing!

Have ordered quite a few books from you before and have been happy with them. This was no exception to that. Book was in good conditon and arrived in a timely manner and before time given to arrive. You make it easy to find the books I am looking for and I usually order the used but in good condition and have never had a reason to complain about the books I have received. Please keep up the good work and I will continue to buy online from you and let everyone know what a good deal it is and that they are generally always in the condition that you have quoted them to be in and always arrive quickly and ahead of time. I receive an email telling me when they are shipping and when I shall received them and you have always lived up to the expectations and made it simpilar to order online from you. You usually make it easy for me to find more books by the authors I like to read and with a full time job and taking care of my elderly mother it's easier to order on line as I don't have a lot of time to spare so this allows me to find what I want and not have to go to alot of stores looking for books. I don't have the time to go to the library alot so I appreciate how easy it is to find and get what I want. Thanks.

There was really nothing noteworthy that stood out to make this a "must read" book. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't memorable either. It was however, entertaining and well written. I bought and read the first 3 books of this series. The story lines were redundant. You read one, you basically read them all. The first two were the exact same storyline...lovers from the past separated by life, find each other again, scared of getting hurt, lots of serious communication flaws between lovers, yada yada yada, and they end up together in the very end. The third book was a little different, new lovers instead of old. The rest of the story remained very much the same with their past lives having them guarding their hearts, more communication flaws, yada yada yada, and finally together in the end. Because I had read the first two books, I had a very difficult time getting past the fictional timeline the author presented in the third book. All three books should have tied in nicely together. However, the third book did not mesh with the first two. Because this was very distracting to me, I never relaxed enough to enjoy the story. Which by the way the author continued to throw out information that should have tied neatly back in with the first two books, but didn't. I'm not normally that picky about things like that, but this one irritated the crap out of me.

I love these books, absolutely love them. I have to admit to it being the TV series that pointed me in the direction of these books. But that doesn't change my 5* review. I love the character dynamic and I find myself holding my breath waiting to see what will become of Mick and Megan's relationship. Onto the next. Thank you Sherryl Woods.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light and enjoyable
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 31, 2012
This is a light romance novel and one of a series set around the same family in a small American town. It is not at all original - Bree and Jake have fallen out in the past because of a misunderstanding, they have been apart for many years but still have strong feelings for each other which they deny at first, each of them has issues which need to be resolved if they are to come together and they are part of larger families which supply lots of sub-plots.

Mildly amusing and not very challenging to read this is, however, a good novel of its type. You will enjoy it if you are a fan of Nora Roberts or Debbie Macomber.
