I loved every page of this book. Fern Michaels is a wonderful author, perfect for a woman like me. She is witty, exotic, ridiculous at times, a charmer and kind, caring, generous and best of all eccentric. In this novel the main character, Theresa Amelia Loudenbery, called Toots, is extremely rich and doesn't mind spending her money on whatever suits her fancy. Is a great mother who raised a charming extremely independent, takes care of her own life, even though her mother is very rich, she does not depend on her mother to cover any of her expenses. Her best friends since childhood are her daughter, Abby's, Godmothers, Sophie, Mavis and Ida, all a bit eccentric, each having their own problems. Toots is more than dedicated to helping them overcome their issues. Mavis is attached to her chihuahua, CoCo and has it with her wherever she goes, tucked into a large cloth purse. Abby's tabloid. Thy at she works forbids up for sale and Abby has Chester who spend most of his time with her, takes her to work with her.
Chris Clay is , even taking him to work with her. A step-son of Toots is devoted to both Toots and Abby, in fact Chris has been in love with Abby forever but treat each other more like brother and sister, though they both feel the between them as much more than a brother and sister relationship. Abby is a journalist employed by a third rate tabloid, hoping to eventually own her own tabloid newspaper. She loves her job. Chris is a celebrity lawyer whose job is to escort all the future gorgeous starlets around to be seen in all the right places. Toots took charge of her friends. Mavis was overweight and embarrassed about herself and short of breath. Toots decided she had to diet and had all the girls helping her change her eating habits and Toots found her an exercise program with a personal trainer.

These four friends have been together since High School. Toots, mother to Abby, and multimillionaire, has a smoking, sugar, tabloids, and naughtiness to her that makes for great reading.

Convinced her friends are in need of friendship, Toots, plans a trip to California to buy the paper up for sale that her daughter works at. She invites Sophie, who she is closest too. Sophie has been married to Walter, a drunk and abuser, who is now dying, for too long. Sophie is a no nonsense, speak your mind, cigarette-huffing, ball of pushiness who is laugh out loud funny. Mavis, the sweet School Teacher, who is overweight, but positive and dotes on her dog named, Coco. Ida, who is a nervous wreck with severe OCD, and has enough snootiest to cool a hot summer day, and is still mad at Toots for stealing her man, have all come to see their goddaughter.

Abby, is a tiny, but beautiful blonde bombshell, who has a man named Chris Clay pinning after her. It just so happens that this is also her mother's lawyer. Can we just say....sneaky? I loved this book and recommend it! I laughed, cried, and cussed throughout this powerful book about friendship, family, and what it means to take care of each other!

This a quick read as the beginning of a series about Abby’s mother and her three Godmothers. We meet Toots at her eighth husband’s funeral. Toots is a very wealth Charleston women with three lifelong friends, each of which comes with her own set of problems. Mavis is a widow who owns a chihuahua and who has eaten her way up the scale after her husband passed. Ida is another widow who became an OCD germaphobe when her husband died from an E-coli exposure. Sophie is an opinionated wisp of a women who has been caring for her drunk abusive husband, Waiting for him to die. The ladies set off on a vacation to Beverly Hills with a plot to help save Toot’s daughter Abby’s job at the Tabloid she loves. An’t wait to start the next book,

Pleasant easy reading, but I always knew where the plot was going.

I didn’t learn anything new about human nature, or myself, or even an experience, place, or skill.

I am in the age group of the women depicted, and none of us drink that much, smoke that much, or eat as much sugar.

The only reference to faith was to blame catholic guilt for Sophie staying with an abusive husband, (but the same catholic guilt did not keep her from relishing the thought of his impending death.)

Lost of loose ends as it is the first of a series. Indeed, nothing is resolved. I have enjoyed Fern Michaels books in the past. This one, not so much.

Toots's daughter works for a tabloid newspaper that is going under financially so Toots secretly arranges to buy the rag, but before the money can be transferred, it mysteriously disappears. This one not as good as the Sisterhood series -- I kept waiting for the real story to start. Maybe the rest of the Godmother series is better.
