I love eccentric people, especially when they have a sense of humor. That's this author. I checked that the characters were developed because there was no choice between that and one dimensional. I usually use the 4 and 5 for really good books-what you would probably call 'literature." This is not that but I had a great time reading it! It was a little silly sometimes but on the whole funny and fun to read. The pace was quick and I never stalled out or wished I could just finish. The mystery carried through well. The ending fit. It was good, give it a try. Oh, by the way, it was written decades ago so don't expect cell phone, computers, etc. Maybe this is what makes the "future" seem so weird.

I had read this book a long time ago and never forgot it. My love of cats, my worries about war and growing violence in society, the happy mind frame of the sixties... all made this book difficult to forget. I bought it now with some reservations. It is outdated in some areas, but in general it is still worth reading and remembering. Leiber is a master at delivering moods and feelings, and he's a great writer

So-So. A skillfully done parody of the "Golden Age Sci-Fi" and "Gangster Noir", but for me boring. I did not finish the story.

pretty good read, it was published in 1954, interesting to see the authors view of the future. A light read

This is an utterly charming book. (I strongly suspect that it was written by someone with a cat in their lap.) The characters, and the world they inhabit, are delightfully detailed and alive. I enjoyed it tremendously.

This story was just way too fantastic for me. And I am not really the fussiest reader around, but I couldn't get through much of it. Sorry not my kind of story.

Excellent story, but far too long-drawn-out.
