Reading the latest volume of Loveless, I fell in love with the story and the drawings all over again. This latest volume delves deeper into Soubi's backstory, with flashbacks to his youth, when he first met his teacher, when he lost his ears, and when he first met Semei. The stories are told succinctly, and the drawings are delicate and bursting with feeling, as always, and sometimes pages read as if they flow along a river of subtle emotions. I love this manga precisely because it always had an unifying emotion through its pages, its drawings and narrative style projecting a sort of wistfulness that hints at the deep love that binds the tortured main characters. There is much sadness in the story, but there's hope and love and beauty too in the way the characters move and interact with each other, and sometimes one word and one look can surprise the reader with its painful emotional impact. In spite of the disturbing hints of incest and obvious references to torture and rape, I think this latest volume more than any others before it hints strongly at the redemptive power of all kinds of love, love among friends, love among families, love between teacher and student, and gives one hope that even in the darkest hours, a warm hand and a comforting embrace can give meaning to the loneliest of souls.

LOVELESS was one of the first anime/manga series I had really gone out of my way to look into. I discovered it in Middleschool (second year of college, now), alongside some other series that were similar I guess. I've recently gotten back into the older series I used to love, so this one was at the top of the list to finish buying the full set of. It's a weird story, but I do like it. It makes me feel nostalgic. I don't recommend it to anyone who is homophobic or hasn't seen some weird/cheesy anime/manga, though.

The art Yun Kouga does improves with each issue, and that's one thing I always like to see through a series. I also recommend the series on DVD (it does not run the full lifespan of the manga, though, if you want the whole story--go with the manga).

I fell in LOVE with this series when a friend of mine introduced me to it. I have been trying my best (although I am not TOO into anime/manga) to keep up with the series - hence, purchasing this volume. Love it. If you are into cutesy romance type mangas, with some slight yaoi then you might try testing out this series.

The story continues with the amazing, beautiful, protective, semi-secretive Loveless. To be honest I care more about Loveless than any other characters! This is a perfect blend of passion, fighting, interest (the crazed mother) and suspense. It's worth sticking around for and finishing the series. It is amazing and everything is answered. But it leaves me wanting more.

I love this series, and I hope that in the future it will continue to be published (DARN YOU TOKYO POP FOR SHUTTING DOWN! Not that I can really blame them in this economy...) However, the seller that I bought this from wasn't exactly honest. Library stickers and bent pages is definitely NOT considered "like new" or even "gently used". *sigh* Other than that, it's a good read and a good buy (if you buy new).

As the series goes on, it gets darker and darker. This book was the darkest so far, and introduces Seimei's true nature. Suffice it to say... he is a horrible, horrible human being.

The eighth installment of the now infamous Loveless series!
*SPOILERS*
We pick up from the last one in where Ritsu is having a confrontation with Seimei in the halls. We have some of Soubi's first memories of meeting Seimei for the first time thrown at us in the first few pages, filling out the plot, giving us that much more to figuring Soubi out. We then hook back up with Soubi and Nisei in battle. Soubi and Ritsuka beat Nisei and he's captured by the authorities. Mean while, Seimei went a little ballistic on Ritsu and Ritsu gets injured badly, having his eyes gouged out by Seimei's knife. Mean while Youji and Natsuo find a message written on the wall in Ritsu's blood by Seimei, saying "Ritsuka, I'm back." Seimei heads to the library and can't break out from there so he waits. Youji and Natsuo eventually come along and are soon joined by Soubi and a very mentally confused Ritsuka (Who wouldn't be if they just found out there 2 years deceased brother was actually alive and in front of them?). We then cut to a scene of Ritsu in hospital with Nagisa. Brief kissing scene, then back to the library. Seimei is trying to convince Ritsuka to give himself to Seimei, that's what anybody who really likes somebody does, don't they is Seimei's reasoning. But Ritsuka sees through it and pushes Seimei aside, saying "I forgive you Seimei, but I'm still mad at you. Seimei says he sees and more or less now hates Ritsuka. He orders Soubi to break the window for him, since it's made out of a really strong glass. Soubi has no choice but to obey. Seimei gets away and there's nothing anybody can really do. The next scenes are of everybody settling down to sleep. Little footnote, Soubi and Ritsuka are sharing the same bed in the last scene, for lack of a better option. *REALLY BIG SPOILERS, LOOK AT OWN RISK!!*
The last words are "...what really happened that night...it wasn't until the next morning that I would find out. But..."
*SPOILER OKAY, NO MORE SPOILERS FROM HERE ON END*

Overall a very cute Manga, and a nice eighth installment. The plot of this one is at its strongest action wise and almost all the main characters make a strong appearance, even the long lost Seimei. For fans of the this Manga you will not be disappointed, it will even enthrall new comers though I highly suggest starting at the beginning to get the full affect of all the work the author has put into this Manga. Highly Recommended for Yaoi and shonen-ai fans, but new comers to these topics, don't be afraid to try this one.

It arrived on time and the inside of the book was in fine condition but I would have preferred to know about the extent of the damage on the outside. I pride myself in taking care of my books and this one has a tear on the back cover as well as it being bent in the middle. I would have bought from a different buyer had I known.
