This is a beautiful book;like I would expect anything less from Betty Lou Phillips! I own every book that Betty Lou has written and some of them I have two copies, one to work from and one to keep in A+ condition. I am from Dallas as is Betty Lou so we think alike when it comes to making a house a home, I guess it is that Southern Mother thing. Now living in Alaska (where people do not decorate their homes in the same style, lots of log cabin and country types here) it so nice to sit down with a cup of coffee as the snow falls outside and let Betty Lou once again take me away to France, Italy or even just Texas for a short while is such a dream come true. I love the size of this book, it is a little larger than some of her books; the size makes for such a great view of all the interesting little details in each space. When I look through this book I see so many little things I can incorporate into my rooms, like the display of items in the cabinet on page 190, (I have 3 cabinets similar to that in my hall way)it makes me feel like Betty Lou helped me decorate my home. I especially love the blueprint drawings used for placematts on page 182; and who wouldn't love Jackson (Betty Lou's dog) on page 77 & 86. Buy this book, you will not regret it.....it is one of her best, however I say that about all of Betty Lou's books.

Beautifully written and photographed, Betty Lou's latest book is not only visually inspiring, but also insightful into French customs and history. The gorgeous book is a great source for all the elegant rooms and accessories pictured while educating the reader on the life and times of the French. It takes you from historic France to current, elegant living in today's world. I loved this book so much that I purchased several gifts for friends and family members- all of whom were thrilled with such a lovely addition to their coffee table collections.

This book is great if you are the wife of a Texas oil baron. For the rest of us not so much. Pages are filled with rooms that are obviously for the wealthy with little imagination or ingenuity. The rooms appear unlived in with museum quality furnishings only a millionaire could afford. Even the nursery looks as if it came with a nanny. Not my taste at all. To many close ups of insignificant vignettes and not enough full spread photos of rooms.

one thing I notice when viewing this fine collection, is organization. the softness of the French blue color. relaxes the mind and soul. even though the dressing of the cupboards are precise and arranged with care. you sense a feeling of order and discipline but are at ease because of the authors selection in decor and furnishings. what a pleasure to study these pages while sipping a cup of chamomile tea. I feel like I sense a fragrance of lavender in the air while I turn the pages.

Not all I expected it to be for such a find cover and author.
Nice but disappointing; almost too bland.

I have purchased previous books by Betty Lou Phillips and was blown away by this latest book! As a builder, pictures say a thousand words and clients are frequently showing me photos out of her books. I intend to study the pages from this book, as I know my clients will be referring to them in the near future. There are wonderful architectural details which support the beautiful interiors and inspiration is on every page!

I can't add too much more in the way of praise for this book. I do have a question...whose house is this? And how long did it take to build and decorate? My only criticism, if it's even that, is the fact that the artwork wasn't quite up to the caliber of the rest of the decoration. A few "starving artist" paintings, which surprised me. Otherwise, fabulous.
