This New York Times manga best seller series features handsome, manly men who have cute, girly hobbies!

Asuka Masamune is a guy who loves girly things--sewing, knitting, making cute stuffed animals and reading shojo comics. But in a world where boys are expected to act manly, Asuka must hide his beloved hobbies and play the part of a masculine jock instead. Can Asuka ever show his true self to anyone, much less to Ryo Miyakozuka, the girl that he's falling for?

Asuka's friend Juta needs to keep his identity as renowned shojo author Jewel Sachihana a secret, so why is he agreeing to do an autograph session?! The answer may lie in a letter from a certain fan...

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 8 Up—After Asuka's father left home to live as a transvestite, Asuka started to go overboard in the masculinity department, even becoming the captain of the school kendo team. Juta also appears to be manly because of his flirtatious track record with girls. And yet Asuka secretly likes sewing, fancy food, and reading the shojo manga Love Chick, which Juta writes under an assumed female name. It is difficult to find an American equivalent of an "otomen"; perhaps the closest equivalent would be a metrosexual, or a heterosexual man who was raised in an all-female household and thus gained extra sensitivity and insight. It seems to reveal something about Japanese culture that Asuka is the only boy who is able to appease a "man-hating" female ghost by talking to her and (more importantly) listening to her. In this volume, Asuka reevaluates his relationship with his female friend Ryo, and Juta accepts an invitation to sign autographs of his manga while disguised as a woman. Kanno's illustrations are well suited to the story, featuring a lot of dramatic closeups, pretty boys with pointy hair, and pretty girls with tiny hats. It is not necessary to have read the earlier books in this series to appreciate this one, but readers who enjoy this book will certainly ask for the entire series.—Andrea Lipinski, New York Public Library

Well a few days ago bought me Otomen vol. 6 and I realized that I haven't purchased the manga for a while so I decided to continue buying the manga books again, but only every now and then.

Once again, the artwork is lovely as is the story captivating. Otomen is a series I recommend on everyone's bookshelf. You won't be disappointed.

Continuing with the back of the book blurb trend with this series, the blurb is just one of the stories in the volume. We finish the story about the band that the last volume ended with, the we have a ghost story that is cute and not scary at all, then Juta's story, then at last we get more cute drama between Asuka and Ryo. So this volume as some great side character development with Juta and he gets some resolution about his first love. Asuka is feeling very uncertain about Ryo, so Juta decides to help them by spread a rumor that Asuka is going to America. But we get a cliffhanger because Ryo is moving! More cuteness and drama ahead!

I give volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
