Johanna Lindsey presents a sparkling, passionate Regency era novel in which a beautiful but ruthless gossip meets her match in a dashing rake who sets out to change her wicked ways, featuring two enthralling characters from the unforgettable bestseller The Heir.

Ophelia Reid is an incomparable beauty with a reputation for starting rumors and spreading them. Having purposely wrecked her engagement to Duncan MacTavish, a future marquis, which her social-climbing father arranged, Ophelia wants to return to London's marriage mart and make her own choice of a wealthy husband. But on her journey home, something unexpected happens...

The heir to a dukedom, Raphael Locke, Viscount Lynnfield is—in spite of his disinterest in marriage—the most sought-after young lord in England. He instantly disliked Ophelia when she caused a scandal to avoid marriage to his friend MacTavish, but having comforted her in a tearful moment, he begins to wonder if she's not all bad. So when MacTavish claims that Ophelia will never be anything but a spiteful beauty, Rafe bets his friend that he can turn her into a kindhearted lady who will one day make a good match, just not with him.

With her parents' blessing, Rafe commandeers Ophelia's coach and whisks her to his remote estate in the countryside. There, as he tries to show his furious, sharp-tongued "guest" the error of her ways, he discovers the surprising reasons for her bad behavior. Soon his daily lessons with Ophelia take effect and he finds himself irresistibly attracted to her. When Rafe champions the new and improved Ophelia's re-entry to London society, marriage proposals pour in. Only then does Rafe start to wonder whether he hasn't gone and fallen in love with Ophelia himself.

Wondrously romantic, passionate, and delightfully humorous,
The Devil Who Tamed Her is proof positive why Johanna Lindsey is among the most widely read and best-loved authors of our time.

I went looking for an older romance novel and found a quick read.

I went looking for an older romance novel and found a quick read.
What if all the books you buy are color-coded? I was hoping to find a book series at my local used book store, and I found this one. There weren't any before or after (of the series). It was an interesting page-turner. Yet I felt it was as though I was missing something. Who were these people, like Sabrina and Duncan? And no family during the Regency would have just one child! She would have had a brother to keep the line going. A little far-fetched but an enjoyable read. I finished it in 24 hours.

The book starts off slow. Give it a few pages and it really takes off, especially when Rafe enters a "bet" with Duncan that he can change
Opheilia into a nicer person.

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!!

After reading bk1 The Heir I thought I would hate Lady Opehlia Reid daughter of an Earl. She was a mean girl. Stuck on her beauty and spoiled. But Johanna Lindsey did an Amazing Job showing you the how and why Opehlia was none of these things.

I loved the romance between Opehlia and Viscount Raphael/Rafe Locke Heir to a very rich and powerful dukedom.

The story moves fast I love the characters and Rafe and Opehlia HEA! This story will go on my re read list!!

With this being the first ever romance novel I ever read, I absolutely loved it! However it should be noted that this book follows after The Heir, which involves Raphael's friend Duncan MacTavish. While the story takes place during, and after The Heir. I found the story to be really enjoyable, and though it is a unique sort of re-telling of the Taming of the Shrew, I find myself constantly going back to reread it. Not only do I have it in paperback, but kindle as well. I really don't wish to spoil this story, but I will say this. I love the dynamics between Ophelia and Raphael, the story was heartwarming as well, and I shed tears at the end of the story. Because of this book, I have become a big fan of Johanna Lindsey's works.

I found it hard to want Rafe to fall in love with Lady O. She was just to mean in the previous book they were in. It told some back story on why she was so mean, but it didn't make me feel that sorry for her. I kept wanting Rafe to find a sweet girl with a nice personality like Sabrina, not for the hero to always go for the lady with the looks.

Hey guys, I must say I loved this book. I have read many Lindsey books over the years. She was my favorite author, I even did a class project on her when I was in highschool, over 10 years ago. I loved her Fabio series...The last couple of books, have lacked quality and basically I just didnt care. THis read was great...I couldnt put it down, I was so proud of her, so inspired and so connected to the characters. The love scense were good and I fell in love with the characters. A very good read, a good book to snuggle up with with hot cocoa. Loved it

Some of Johannas love scenes are very tame. This story had a good tale and the scenes were a little more PG instead of G rated ;) However my problem was I read this story out of line. To get a good grasp of the characters you need to read "The Heir" first. The two kind of take place together but "the heir" is the one that should be first. Of course you can read "the devil who tamed her" first if you would like. The spoiled brat is not so spoiled when she learns to curb her passion. The Devil has a GREAT way of helping her change her attitude! A must have if you like Johanna Lindsey!

This is, in my opinion, a romance novel apart, the hero and heroine are different than what one might expect but that is all the more entertaining and engaging.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

I found this book quite disappointing and not up to Johanna’s usual awesomeness ( I’ve loved the majority of her books and I am usually disappointed when the storey ends always wanting more, not this time!). The storey is about an entitled brat that changes her ways with the help of a titled lord whose arrogance is no better than the heroines! No real life struggles to overcome, no real action just snobbish bitter drama that left me wondering through most of the book if it was going to get better. I was tempted more than once just to stop reading it.

4.0 out of 5 stars More interesting than the first

Book 2 - " Reid Family Series " This novel continues from the cancelation of the wedding of Ophelia and Duncan and with Ophelia leaving the estate. Ophelia in the previous novel " The Heir " was portrayed as a real witch so it was difficult to adjust to... is she a witch or not? But the characters in this story were more well-developed although the author still can't decide if the person is going to be difficult to live with or just misunderstood, as in the case of Ophelia's father. I liked Rafe as the teacher/lover and I thought the story was very original and interesting.

At first, plot seemed so shallow but it progressed nicely from there with some of the feels that I didn't expect to have. Been reading romantic novels for 20years so I've had my fair share of rubbish. Not bad.
