The companion DVD was missing. I purchased this copy specifically because the seller said it included the DVD. This is the only edition that had the DVD.Also an entire section in the back of the book is missing. I believe they were flash cards or study guides of some kind. Just tattered sheds of torn book.Additionally the front corner is severely bent.

Robinson : Modern Dental Assiting had this book summerized in better detail in a very clear and easy to understand way that made this book not necessary for anatomy class.

I'm a student in new york and we were assigned this book. The quick and dirty is that the book is somewhat long-winded and tough to follow, but gives a very detailed description of the teeth. Many new dental students will find that using the glut of new dental terminology like line angles, different types of ridges and just finding the orientation in space is hard. If you can get past this, the book is very helpful. Whats really helpful (and what most of our students use) is the tooth CD that comes with it. It is a series of cartoon picures that summarizes paragraph-long descriptions into something as easy as an arrow. Its just that easy. If you are fortunate to stumble across a PDF copy of the CD, use it. However, personally, I am very happy with purchasing the book because it also includes a number of flashcards in the back and it will no doubt be useful in studying for the boards. There it is. The book isnt THAT bad. Its just VERY descriptive.

Dental anatomy is a tough subject to learn. The human dentition varies from person to person and from race to race. If you truly want to learn dental anatomy a text book by itself is not enough. Use models, typodonts, extracted teeth, and your own patients to further your understanding. You might have to purchase such items by yourself. You have to gain knowledge through experience. This book (previous edition, old exams, and dental decks) helped me to achieve a 99 percentile on NDBE Part I. I can't believe the lack of professionalism from the previous reviewers. They are an embarrassment to the profession of dentistry. Who cares if you are #2 in the class, too bad you are not #1 (Then we can take you seriously!). I would recommend this book only as a supplement to the learning of dental anatomy. You can not learn all there is about dentistry from a text book! Dental school only gives you the basics.
