Confessions of a Southern Father Paperback – March 14, 2005

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 1 rating

The "girls," as Hixon Taite refers to his two daughters, are quite a handful. Hixon, a devoted father, takes you along on the wild ride of raising two "handfuls" in the Deep South. Constantly at odds with his wife on the "proper" rearing of young ladies, he sidesteps her gentle efforts to correct him (and them) and embarks on a life-long mission to raise his beloved girls as he sees fit. They careen from the proper techniques of spitting, to bluffing a hand in poker, skipping school and corralling slithering snakes. Science projects, driving lessons, boyfriends and even weddings add to the fun. It's a roller coaster ride for this Southern father as he battles his parent's attempts to spoil the girls (and buying VERY loud toys to torture him) and his wife wondering on a daily basis why she married him. Through it all, you share in his love and devotion, not only to his beloved girls, but to the "girl" who married him.

I read this book a few years ago and recently went back and read it again. The humor and life interaction make for a entertaining read. Very nearly a "How To" for fathers with daughters.
