When your 6th grade principal Dr. Pheobe Wienke (we were all scared of her) calls you down to her (very scary) office and says, "You are a very talented writer. Have you ever thought about being a writer?" You say, "Oh yes I have!" But you don't tell her about the YA novels you started in a spiral notebook hidden in the basement. Then you ignore her advice for approximately a couple decades or so until your best friend hands you a (fancy) notebook and pen and says, "Just write something already! You need to write!"
And that, boys and girls is how you become a famous, award winning, syndicated newspaper columnist, humorist and author! Well, take out the "famous" part and throw in some real unglamorous stuff and here we are!
I write about what I know: life. And what I don't know about it. About what goes on in my own crumb covered kitchen which apparently is what goes on in (even clean!) kitchens across the continent. "It's like you're looking in my living room window and writing about it!" said one guy a while back. For the record, I am not a stalker. I don't have time for that. Plus I think sitting at home with a glass of wine in my dorky pj's watching a Hallmark movie is a better choice any day.
