About the authors
Ben Stein (Los Angeles, CA) is a respected economist who is known to many as a movie and television personality, but has worked more in personal and corporate finance than anywhere else. He has written about finance for Barron's, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and Fortune; was one of the chief busters of the junk-bond frauds of the 1980s; has been a longtime critic of corporate executives' self-dealing; and has cowritten eight finance books. Stein travels the country speaking about finance in both serious and humorous ways, and is a regular contributor to CBS's Sunday Morning, CNN, and Fox News. He was the 2009 winner of the Malcolm Forbes Award for Excellence in Financial Journalism.
Phil DeMuth is an investment advisor. He was valedictorian of his class at the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1972, and then went on for his master's in communication and Ph.D. in clinical psychology before anyone could stop him. A psychologist and investment advisor, Phil has written for the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Forbes, the Journal of Financial Planning, Human Behavior and Psychology Today (and anyone else who will dare to publish him), and is the author of nine books on investing, most co-authored with his pal, economist Ben Stein, and some of which have been New York Times bestsellers.
His opinions have been quoted in the New York Times, the Financial Times, Yahoo! Finance, On Wall Street, Fortune, Research Magazine, Investor's Business Daily, Motley Fool, theStreet.com, and Playboy (not a pictorial, though) and he has been seen on various TV shows, including Consuelo Mack WealthTrack, CNBC's Worldwide Exchange, On the Money, Squawk Box and Closing Bell, as well as Fox & Friends, and Wall Street Week (basically, anyone who will stick a microphone in front of his face).
Importantly, his high school rock band opened for Herman's Hermits at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, and he served as a judge for one episode of the immortal TV reality show America's Most Smartest Model.
For his day job, Phil runs Conservative Wealth Management LLC.

I think the title of this book is a bit misleading and should read, "Yes, you MAY still Retire Comfortably" - IF you are able to save enough, inflation and taxes don't spiral out of control, etc. The ONE point I got from this book is that there are no formulas that guarantee a comfortable retirement but there are guidelines that up the chances of reaching that goal considerably.
Trouble is, if you want to be reasonably sure you'll have enough money for retirement you have to save a LOT more than the average American does and, ideally, carry little to no credit card debt. The figures, I'll admit, shook me up. Most Americans have HUGE mortages, significant credit card deb and are paying off debt (slowly) when they should be saving.
However, as grim as the picture may seem to be, Stein allows for readers to tack in variables such as expected Social Security income, various rates of inflation, etc. If the "best case" scenario occurs, people may not need to save as much. If the "worst case scenario" takes place, watch out!
I think most people reading this book will discover that they need to save FAR more than they think per year, stop counting on Social Security as a "given" , etc. The outlook for Baby Boomers isn't great, IF they don't heed the advice in this book and start thinking carefully about how important that designer outfit is - versus living decently in retirement.
He appears frequently on Fox so I get to hear his current thinking on the markets.

Solution: You are going to have to save more and invest wisely. Retirement checklists are reviewed, along with investment strategies based upon age and income. Specific investment funds are listed, I wonder if the authors got a cut???? But overall, the information that you would pay for by buying this book is out there on the internet. Dig a little and you can find plenty of information about the retirement problems, investment strategies, and funds. I would recommend the Millionaire Next Door if you want a general understanding on how individuals develop wealth.
