This book is full of campfire tales, written by hunters a century ago. The tools have changed, but the excitement of the hunt still leaps out at the reader today. This was not written for the joystick gamer, but the couch crowd would profit by reading a chapter a day and repeating for a month. The Boone and Crockett Club is akin to The Rock'N'Roll Hall of Fame. These hunter-authors tell a good tale.

It is an interesting time capsule. The definition of what is sporting has changed a bit in the last century but if you can read it in the context of its times it is a worth while read. I highly recommend the story titled 'A Mountain Fraud'

I think this book was very interesting from a historical standpoint. It reveals the abundance of game in former times, the lack of restraint on some hunters part in regards to seasons of the year, harvesting young animals, etc. The actual value to today's hunter is not of practical importance, but is only a reminder of former times.

I gave this a four-star rating only because of limited application in today's world. It was good reading by some notable persons from our early history of the US>

Didn't like the old fashioned style of writing. Deleted after the first 3 stories. Not descriptive enough. No mention of the types and calibers of firearms and the trophys weren't described etc. No feeling of the hunting atmosphere at all for me.

I choose the book title because I enjoy hunting elk and other big game. I enjoy the West and the hunting stories that are born from men and women that chase their dreams appeals to me. Ck. It out

I enjoyed this read as a history of hunting and stalking over the years. the book has a multitude of stories spanning many areas, game hunted and a look at the times it happened. This is not about hunting in modern times since about 1950 but a great look at the west in earlier days. A book I would recommend to those who enjoy hunting and fishing stories
