About the author
In spite of having enjoyed professional success as a textile designer, Vishwa was plagued by shyness and found himself socially gauche in relating to others. He opted to become a laughter therapist to learn the right social icebreaking tools, but the results were unforeseen. What he thought to be a “comedian’s caper” led to a deeply moving catharsis for himself and his audience. He realized that he had become a healer and the act of helping others was actually healing his own troubled self. He had lost his soul to the act of reaching out and touching the souls of others.
Not satisfied with the professional success he attained, he turned to a deeper, more philosophical quest: searching for the meaning of life.
Brought up in a religious home, Vishwa took an unorthodox approach in discovering his higher self through charitable giving and positive psychology, where the meaning of life is to find meaning in life.
In his new book, Who Stole my Soul?: A Dialogue with the Devil on the Meaning of Life, (978-0-9823140-5-0, Synergy Books, November 2009, $19.95), businessman and laughter therapist Vishwa details his journey of spiritual awakening through a dialogue with an unconventional source of wisdom, the devil – a literary device he uses to explore the issues with no fixed answers, like who is God, the cycle of birth and death, why bad things happen to good people and goods things to bad people.
Who Stole my Soul? is a semi-autobiographical spiritual quest, detailing Vishwa’s experiences that lead him to find meaning and spiritual joy in the simplest of things. Peppered with inspirational quotes from great thinkers, the book encourages others to seek happiness through finding and following their own unique life purpose.

"Who Stole my soul" is a dialogue between the author - Vishwa Prakash and Mr. Devil (the anti-God). The book begins with a confused state which the author finds himself in - a conflict going on between his selfish and selfless states. He is desperately in search of his true self. Till 50 years of his life, he happily indulged in chasing money and fame of accumulating more and more worldly accolades but gradually these same things start losing their charm and he finds himself stagnating emotionally and spiritually. He feels his soul has left him in search of some more fulfilling prospects. Now he too feels drawn towards the philanthropic path that his soul has chosen and he experiences a warm glow within him in giving and helping his fellow beings through the medium of laughter yoga.
In an attempt to get his thinking more clear on the issues that are bothering him, he decides to hold a one-on-one with Mr. D, who pleasantly turns out to be quite unlike the author's notion of him. And begins an odyssey through which Mr. D very nonchalantly takes the author to unraveling of the mysteries of life in a gradual and subtle manner. The questions about - God, His need to create an anti-God, journey of souls through various lifetimes, significance of religion in the life, true meaning of our lives - get answered beautifully when actually the author is taken within himself in pursuit of the solutions. As the conversation progresses, comes the awareness of - logical yet ignored goal of finding, feeling and feeding the soul.
A unique way of presentation and while being a part of the conversation readers may feel their own questions getting answered on many occasions. Many self-help books fall in an easy trap of getting transformed into long lists of "to do" and "not to do" things. It feels good while reading them but scarcely they become a part of the thought process. 'Who Stole my Soul?' very neatly refuses to take this bait. While having this colloquy, the author is driven by Mr. D to reach the conclusions himself rather than the same being spoon fed to him directly. Needless to say, the process of self discovery makes much more lasting impressions on mind.
Written with a tongue-in-cheek, funny style, the narrator Devil immediately tackles the largest enemy of peaceful living - fears and fantasies. The former are clearly recognized by everyone, but the latter advice calls for some honest self-examination. For instance, there are the lustful fantasies of both males and females that are followed by seeking the "perfect" spouse with whom one can live forever in "domestic harmony." When protesting with sentimental excuses, the Devil quickly cuts off the human for his "bumble-babble...If you begin to bore me with some bombastic Godly spiel, then I'll just lick my lips and chomp your head off." No arguing there...
The Devil even tackles some topics that one doesn't normally consider such as the power of laughter to heal the deepest wounds and help one cope with the toughest challenges like depression and illness. Again, the value of self-giving is mocked by our fiendish narrator. And wonder of wonders, "God and religion are not the same thing!" Add to that humans will never know the difference because they are so busy sucking up and competitively trying to complete their self-made plans!
There is so much more here to enjoy and to stop in order to truly meditate on what shouldn't be glossed over! Numerous quotes from writers of all cultural persuasions are spread throughout the text, making one realize that much research has gone into this work which offers a goldmine in its flip but potent style reminiscent of C. S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters.
Nicely done, Vishwa Prakash!

There's fiction and there's pulp fiction. There's spirituality and fast-food spirituality and this book is the real thing. It avoids all the trappings of making a book sell with holier-than-thou do's and don'ts. I can almost feel the author's soul through its pages and live his life, as he chips away at his heart to find his spiritual self. This book may not be a textbook on spirituality, but because it's so experiential and witty, it's easy to read and makes its point in such a digestible manner. The author makes his point without being preachy.
Good job, Vishwa!
WHO STOLE MY SOUL is the story of Vishwa, whose soul was infiltrated and then swept away by a force stronger than we commonly understand.
To try and tame this force, Vishwa appeals to the devil, and engages him in a dialogue which makes witty reading.
He who looks outside, dreams. He who looks inside, awakens. Vishwa's conversation with the anti-God is an adventure safari that takes him deeper and deeper within himself. In an attempt to reclaim his lost soul, Vishwa is forced to re-visit the mother of all questions: Who am I? What is my soul? Who or What is God?
The anti-God has an unorthodox and fresh viewpoint for each of Vishwa's concerns. This intriques one moment, enlightens the next.
You will recognize your reflection in these pages. This book holds a mirror to your inner soul, and brings it to where you can touch it, feel it and polish it.
