Review
Book Your Vacation Film + Travel: North America, South America; ($15.95, Museyon Guides) is part of the Museyon series subtitled A Curated Guide to Your Obsessions and that's exactly what this book does it leads the film fanatic on a tour of locales where famous and obscure movies have been shot. Longing to run the Chattooga River in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains from Deliverance? Want to swing by the Oak Bar in New York City's The Plaza Hotel where Cary Grant's character was abducted in North by Northwest? How about spending some time at Boone Hall Plantation outside of Charleston, S.C., where some scenes from The Notebook were done? Stills from the movies, as well as photos from the destinations, are included, along with additional information on the film or locale where available. The index lists the year and the country where the film was made and the DVD distributor. ~ Kyle Wagner, 06/21/2009 --The Denver Post
Film + Travel: North America, South America Museyon Guides, $15.95 It's always fun to see how your city appears on the big screen. In this entertaining guide, eight writers offer their cinematic take of movie locations: San Francisco, New York, the South, Mexico City, Puerto Rico, Canada, Argentina and Chile. Some of the sites are iconic (scenes from Steve McQueen's Bullitt, for example) while others are not as well known. Director Julie Taymor shot inside Frida Kahlo's house for her bio-pic Frida; in Mexico City. And then there's that ultimate chameleon of a country, Canada, which often on film pretends to be something that it is not: Alberta filled in for Wyoming in Brokeback Mountain; Winnipeg as 1950s-era New York in Capote; and Toronto for Chicago in Chicago. A fun guide for cinemaphiles. ~ June Sawyers, 7/19/09 --The Chicago Tribune
