My Buddy Butch Paperback – September 5, 2008
by
Jeff Marginean
(Author)
My Buddy Butch is a humerous, touching, true story of how a little, rambunctious Boston terrier gives Jeff a new perspective on single parenthood, unconditional love, and learning to slow down in this hectic world we live in today. After Jeff's mom passed away, the family decided to get Dad a little female Boston terrier puppy to keep him company. This was just what the doctor ordered and when Buttons had her first litter of pups, Jeff was not far behind from his own furry bundle of joy! From eating the carpet to taking over an entire king-sized bed, Butch went to great lengths to turn Jeff into a New Dog Dad! The book illustrates how these little dogs eased the pain of the loss of a wife and mother and brought a son and his father closer together, giving them something in common to discuss.

Man, what a true to life book. I am the proud owner of a BT and I found out about Mr. Marginean's book on 'Woof,' which is a Boston Terrier Forum. I promptly ordered it but being a BT lover or owner are not requirements for loving this book. The author puts on paper just what loving a pet can do for one's life. Not many books keep me interested to the point I read them in several sittings but this one did. A 'should have' for dog lovers - a 'must have' for Boston Terrier owners!

I am an owner of a Boston Terrier, and when I saw this book, I had to have it. And let me tell you, from the minute I got it to I finnished, I could relate on so many levels. I saw my Tilly in Butch! A must read for any dog lover, but especially for any Boston Terrier owners.

I haven't finished this book yet since I am still reading it, but you will love it. I have laughed so much and it definitely describes a lot of us as dog lovers with our own dogs.

I have two Bostons and this book certainly rang true in a number of Butch's antics. Butch is a lovable character (as are the other Bostons in the book) and the author's love for Butch is evident. The stringing together of adventure after adventure kept the book moving at a good pace, but I just wasn't impressed with the writing style. Attempts at humor are often lame or poorly placed and the book is peppered with blatant grammatical errors (on several occasions Butch nips at someone's 'heals'), so if this bothers you while reading, I would advise against getting this book. Further, the author is a bit over the top with his care and concerns regarding his pet. This dog really is like his child, so if you find it a bit annoying when owners treat dogs like people, this one will definitely get on your nerves. The bottom line for me is that this book is very sweet and well intentioned, but I would not recommend it as any sort of dog owner's guide and if you can't look past poor writing to see the occasional emotional gems here, don't waste the money.

Very touching and makes me want to buy a Boston female if I can find one with beautiful markings on her face and has white stockings.
