For all of my professional life, I've been obsessed with helping people increase their skills and mental focus to create the success they desire. I'm the founder of Apifany, LLC, a Silicon Valley-based coaching and consulting firm with a global clientele. Apifany helps individuals, teams, and organizations achieve their most ambitious goals.

The first half of my career was spent in the music world. It was there that I designed a learning system for mastering advanced skills ten minutes at a time. I've used that system with musicians, athletes, and corporate leaders. My system includes strategies for performing well in high-pressure environments, and sustaining mental and emotional states that drive successful results.

Nice overall. Much better than a general weekly journal. I understand why the layout is on two separate pages, but for me I would squeeze down the assignment page to half a page in order to stretch out the weekly log. I seem to have to squeeze things in the allotted boxes. Which isn’t per se impossible or unreasonable (for instance I can list all the scales on one line or simply say weekly assigned scales). I think too the total practice time column column can be shrunk down to make more room for the metronome one. This is since I sometimes try slower for a while then increase. Or have multiple exercises listed on a line that get practiced at various speeds. But again not impossible to input multiple numbers. These are simply nit-picky remarks that wouldn’t mind seeing in a later edition. Overall I think this works pretty well for my needs. If I could change one, actually two, things it would be to increase the pages by three-fold and to use slightly thicker card stock for the cover.

I love this planner and now have all my adult students using it. Easy to take notes on what we cover in the lesson according to category. The student can then define the week by goals and focus on either what we covered or on what she/he wishes to review, depending on skill level.

I personally use it and let each day define my next days practice. I can see by marking the time spent on each area exactly what I am practicing. I can correct my timing and/or the focus of my practice by looking at what constitutes my current pattern of practice. It is so easy to get lost and have 30 minutes go by involved in learning or playing a piece while neglecting other areas that are vital for improving piano skills. I love having this right in front of me in such a clear manner. It keeps me on track and well rounded.

My students bring their planners to lessons and we can immediately see where they need to concentrate their practice for the week. It is so helpful. I highly recommend this book for all piano students and teachers.

It basically questions you about all of the things you should be working on. I always fill out my page for the week right after my lesson, when it's fresh in my mind. Then it's like having my teacher remind me of those little easy to forget things every single day! I also like being able to track what I have done. Gives a nice sense of accomplishment. Everyone should something like this for private lessons. How many times have you sat down to practice and wondered what the heck it was you were supposed to be striving for in a particular piece or exercise? If you're like me and feel like this almost everyday, then you need this. Nothing super fancy, but it keeps me a lot more organized and efficient. I feel like I make more of the time between lessons.

I require this book for my students. It has a simple but thorough format to be useful for music students at various level of ability. It keeps my older students (high school age) on track, and it has been very motivating for my youngest students (5 y. old) because they challenge themselves to put something in the time boxes for every day of the week, even if it's just 10 minutes, then at the lesson we add up the time and see if they beat their time-total from the previous week and I ask them if they feel like they improved. They always say do improve, and get really excited that they can influence their own improvement.

I absolutely love having this for private lessons, helps keep track between the student and teacher what needs to be done for the week. Also helps keep track how much time the student puts in every time they practice, and what they worked on so they can see how much progress they worked. The planner also has a section for comments, metronome marking you worked on for certain pieces, and a section for the teacher to write comments throughout the lesson. Recommended for any private tutor or aspiring music student.

I use this to focus my weekly practice priorities, not to strictly dictate my practice. I also use it to log how much time I spend practicing and to note when a song is performance ready so I can see how long it usually takes me over time. I will be buying this journal again when I run out of pages!

I heard about this planner from someone I rehearse with who has to be the most organized and conscientious person who makes good use of his pracice time. He is always making such good progress as well in becoming a better player. I have been writing down practice progress in a regular planner, but I can already see that this is so much better and makes more sense. I like the idea of planning my week in advance, breaking it down into specific areas, and keeping track of progress on a daily basis. I also bought The Musicians Practice Log for comparison, so I will try them both. The other seems to deal more with the emotions and blockages that can stand in the way of getting to practice better, but I am tending towards the Musicians Practice Planner already. I like that it is spiral bound and it looks like its good for a year, vs. the other one that is only for 12 weeks. My only concern is that there may not be enough room to write it all down.

I use the practice planner for my private flute students and my own children use it as well for their lessons. The ages of kids with which I use this is middle school and high school age. It allows me to be very specific with what I would like them to be working on as well as including specific directions and tempos.

It makes it easier for my own kids because I am not standing over their shoulders and asking what their teachers want them to work on, it is written right there for them in black and white!!

The concept is good, but keep in mind it is just one spreadsheet printed on ordinary paper for the whole book. The bonding is not stable and the cover gets worn out quickly.
