Purchase options and add-ons

Laugh-out-loud funny and completely true, this is the story of how the author purchased a scruffy pony of unknown origins and abilities whose main attraction was her price tag. That alone would be funny enough, but then she sets the goal for herslef and the pony of showing in competition within one year. And while that would also be funny enough, she undertakes this task after being out of the saddle for several years while becoming a wife and the mother of two children under the age of three. Add to the mix a falling-down farm with no fencing, 100 free-range chickens and a "fixer-upper" home, and you have the makings of a very funny story.

About the Author

Ellen Broadhurst lives with her husband, two toddlers, one slightly wacky dog, 100 free-range chickens on a "work in progress" farm in New Jersay. It's quite a miracle she was even able to write this book, but readers will be glad she did.

Actually, if you read the book, you get most of it. I'm 42, and left a fairly comfortable career to raise two wee children. On a 130-acre farm. I traded strategy decks for Rhode Island Reds and an administrative assistant for a kitchen without a dishwasher. But, hey, life is full of trade offs!

I have purchased this book more than one time. I laughed all the way through the book. This book is one of my favorites!

This book is so hysterically funny, and so true to life. Anyone who loves animals, and certainly horses will love every word of this true story of the trials and triumphs in training the horse and rider to be a competitive team. Anyone can relate to the juggling act that kids, horses and a working farm involve, and the fact that just when you think things are going according to plan that life will inevitably throw you a curve ball you never saw coming. A great book for the horse lover or anyone who loves a good read.

So, what can you say when a book already has a 100% 5 star rating???
You will wet your pants. We have all had a $700 pony of some ilk or another and this is the story we would have written if we were as witty as Ellen Broadhurst. For those who might not have had a $700 pony, you have missed out on a major equestrian rite of passage. This book would then be required reading - it's the closest to the real thing you are going to find.
My $700 pony? She's doing just fine, thanks. And yes, she too has a gorgeous flaxen tail!!

What a wonderful book! The Chronicles $700 Pony is hilarious, witty, ever entertaining, yet also realistic. The $700 Pony is wonderfully depicted, in that wry fashion only a real horse person can truly put into words. I picked this book up and could not stop reading - I read it all in one sitting, complete with tears streaming down my face from laughter. A fantastic, light hearted and joyous read. Highly recommended!! Can't wait to read the second one.

Knowing Ellen and having read and treasured all the articles she used to write for the ESDCTA newsletter I couldn't wait to get the book. Bought 8 copies before even reading it for the other horse people in my life. Opened it and read it the same night even tho it's very hard to read when you are laughing so hard your eyes are tearing and won't focus. This is a must have book. She has so many more stories for a book - like how to start your pick-up with hedge clippers, yep and the time she and my husband were settleing port a johns at a horse show.....Anyway - buy a copy for every horse person you know.

I haven't laughed this much in a long time. A wonderful, funny book I would recommend to anyone. I laughed until I was crying and my own "wee" children wanted to know what was wrong with me. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

One of my favorite books. Laughed till I cried. I bought copies for some of the girls at the barn (I'm of a "certain age!") and they reported that it was only kind of funny, but they could understand why old people liked it. Didn't THAT make me feel....old. Anyway, wonderful book, and don't miss the sequel.

I laughed and laughed and ordered several for friends.
