BAD Customer Service
I purchased a bunch of these for RCIA candidates. One of them had many missing pages (see picture). I went to the publishers website and sent them a note and they have NEVER responded. I have no problem with defective material. Manufacturing is just like us humans.... not perfect! But ignoring customers is a very bad practice.

I recently bought two of these Saint Joseph Edition New American Bibles (NABRE), the most current Revised Edition, in hardcover by Catholic Book Publishing Corp., one came in green cloth:  The New American Bible , ISBN 978-0-89942-963-2, No. 611/67, the other (this one) in black cloth ISBN 978-0-89942-964-9, No. 611/22. I have owned one of these for about two decades and it is finally falling apart. I like these editions for my own personal use. They are rugged, have nice sewn bindings, they can take quite a beating. They have large print. They open nicely and stay opened without pages flipping back or forth.

The translation is the one that people hear each Sunday in the Catholic Church at Mass. I believe this makes it the preferred one to use in Bible Study in the parish, although the
The Ignatius Bible: Revised Standard Version - Second Catholic Edition  is a more literal and precise translation. Besides the Sacred Scriptures, these editions come with what I believe is one of the essential Vatican II documents supporting the study of Scripture, the  Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation: Dei Verbum: Solemnly Promulgated by His Holiness Pope Paul VI on November 18, 1965, (Documents of Vatican II) . It also has a very nice section, "How to Read the Bible." There are a fair number of good illustrations, maps and other tables. It has a basic Bible Dictionary, lists the Readings for Sunday Mass for the entire 3-year Cycle, and has a useful Doctrinal Index wherein the Scripture texts underlying Church Teachings can be found.

The Saint Joseph Edition of the NAB is about as reasonably priced as you can get. Having bought both new Bibles as "used" in "very good" condition, they were only a fraction of the normal price, arrived in excellent condition looking like new Bibles, with the durability to last another 10-20 years with lots of use, I say these are a real bargain anyway you look at it.

This, the Black hardcover only, also has a section for Family Records in-between the Old and New Testaments.

If you are looking for a Confirmation gift, there is a special edition of this:
Saint Joseph Medium Bible-NABRE . It is a little more expensive. It has gilded pages. It is dressy. It is also 1 1/4 inches smaller. The print is still very good. I often use this size in paperback,  New American Bible, St. Joseph Medium Size Edition . This comes in different colors. There is green:  Saint Joseph Bible-NABRE-Medium Size , brown:  Saint Joseph Medium Size Gift Bible-NABRE  and white, which is the Marriage Gift Edition:  Saint Joseph Medium Bible-NABRE .

7/31/2014 Updated to reflect language about the Revised Edition. At the same time, I bought three more used copies of this. It's always nice to have Bibles on hand that I can give away.

I love this Bible. The translation is written in a very straight forward way and is easy to understand. The notes are great - I am learning so much from them. The type is not huge but I find it very easy to read. Very happy with this Bible!

I am satisfied in every way with this Bible. I am in the early stages of growing cataracts and I am able to read the print without a problem. The binding allows the bible the lie open as flat as a bible this packed with features can be reasonably expected to lie open for ease in reading and annotation with one's personal notes and highlights. regarding highlighting, I use dry highlighters, so I cannot comment on how the paper responds to ink highlighters. I attend bible classes often, with this bible, the catechism and to class book I am almost always well prepared to participate fully in the class. Several people expressed the the bible and I have given them copies of this bible. All their comments have been favorable. I believe with reasonable care this bible will last a very, very long time.

I haven't finished it yet - but it has some problems.
Example: Abraham got circumcised at 90 years old. IT says that Ishmael is 13 when he was circumcised. Later, it says that that Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born. If you do the math - then Ishmael would of been 23 years old. So, he would of been at least 23 years old when Abraham sent he and his mother Hagar out into the wilderness - right? Then when it tells this story of Abraham putting BOTH a jug of water AND Ishmael on his mothers back and sending them off into the dessert.
Other than that (so far) it has been pretty good. lots of information in the footnotes.

Purchased this bible for my son in the 5th grade. Halfway through the school year it still looks great; it travels daily to and from school.

Print large enough for easy reading, even the footnotes easily legible. Great value for the money. Paper thick enough for heavy use and underlining (if you are one of those, like me, who still prefer that to highlighting). Not meant for display, since it's cloth cover with colored, not gilded, pages, but excellent for daily use. Textwise, it's the standard current revision of the New American Bible, which I don't particularly like. But it is essentially accurate and accepted by the church. Table of Christ's miracles in the four gospels is useful, as is listing of Sunday readings.

I needed to "upgrade" to a large-print Bible and chose the St. Joseph NABRE Large-Print. We were starting a Lenten Bible Study at our church, and I knew I would be doing more reading than usual. I am very pleased with the St. Joseph NABRE Large-Print Bible and would recommend it to anyone. The footnotes are very helpful and the illustrations make the readings come alive. There is a Family Record section between the Old and New Testaments; a Bible Dictionary after Revelation; and, because it is a Catholic Bible, they have included the three Cycles of Sunday Mass readings and the Mass readings for the Major Feasts of the Church.

I ordered this on Thursday & received it on Saturday, so appreciate the prompt service. I was needing a sturdy Bible that I could use for referencing & study & this is more than adequate for my needs. It is a bit heavier than some of my others but it is large print, so that is a plus. There are also some extras that I don't have in my other Bibles, as well as it is a newer edition. I'm happy with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars How large is large?

I like this bible, it's lovely, has information in it besides the text of the Bible. I was however a tad disappointed by the size of the font. It is bigger than the one I have and I can read it easier but I thought it would have been larger.

This is the NAB (New American Bible), Revised Edition.

It is a Catholic Bible.

The contents are of course the Bible! Check out your versions and translations and see if you want the NABRE and if you do....then buy this one!

This is just a superbly bound and presented book. I absolutely love it and just wish other Bible publishers made such excellent quality books in such wonderful bindings. Its rather an indictment on English Editions of Catholic Bibles (or any Bibles that have the Apocrypha) that I have found this edition to be far superior to any other available to myself in the UK.

I must say that the "Catholic Book Publishing Corporation", when they produce a book, they produce a very nice one! They seem to make books that are a pleasure to use, a pleasure to worship with and a real sense of sacredness. Again in the UK we have poor quality Catholic bibles (correct me if I am wrong) and even worse publications of the Divine Office/Liturgy of the Hours. The Catholic Book Publishing Corporation seem to do all of these well....although I have only peeked at their Liturgy of the Hours that a friend has...and done so wishing I too had that!

Anyway, back to this book....I just adore it and will very much use this for Lectio and other special purposes.

(by the way...YES...I did pay for my copy....I am not associated with CBPC at all!)

Come on ye British Catholic and other Bible publishers....please make some better quality books like this available to us in the UK !

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed.

Purchased this Bible because of the economical cost and mainly because of the advertised large print. I found that the large print was misleading. It simply was not that large. Disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bible. Well made and good quality.

Brilliant! Just what I was looking for. Excellent Catholic bible - but not just for Catholics - for anyone. Excellent source for those wanting to learn more about the word of God. The NAB is one of my favourites and is the one of choice for me. (This is the NAB Revised Edition.) For me the print is quite large (approximately 12 point) and I found it easy to read. There are probably other bibles with larger print that would best be defined as 'giant' print, but for me the print is more than adequate, and compared to regular bible print I would suggest that it is large print. Nice, handy size but not too large to carry round. The bible is well constructed and sturdy. The pages are thin but are good quality and no more less robust than many other more expensive bibles, so should provide heavy usage. What I find really cool is the presentation box provided. A really nice and attractive touch. Protects the bible, too, All-in-all if you want a great bible, well made and easy on the eye, this is the one to purchase and it should last and take lots of use. I am really pleased and it is better than I expected. Love it!!
