Healing: Stories of Faith, Hope, and Love Paperback – September 1, 2003

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 3 ratings

How to repair body, mind and spirit through God's healing love is the subject of this practical, readable, and insightful guidebook. In material organized into four major sections, the author--an experienced physical therapist and lay catechist--offers counsel and instruction on the facets of healing that include how to recognize the need to seek help, and how to use the resources of recovery-prayer, meditation, supportive relationships, forgiveness and ministry. For all these strengths, the greatest lies in its message of hope--that with the help of a loving God, we can effect our own healing.

Review

"Healing is specially good in that it shows the hurting person what he or she can do, rather than just how to pray for others!" Francis MacNutt, Director, Christian Healing Ministries, Inc.

"Every chapter I read helped me grow in important, or stunted, or sometimes secret aspects of my life." Pat King, conference speaker and writer.

"Alkire's highly readable account is rich with stories, prayer suggestions, and practical resources. It is rooted in tradition, yet attuned to contemporary realities. I recommend
Healing to anyone looking for a way out of hurt into hope and wholeness." Kathleen Fischer, author of Transforming Fire: Women Using Anger Creatively

From the Back Cover

This book offers readers hope and shows them how to participate actively in their own healing: physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational. At the end of each chapter, a practical section is designed to lead the readers into healing experiences where God can meet them in their need.

Author and speaker Jan Alkire believes Jesus meant what he said: "I have come to bring you life, life in all it's fullness." (John 10:10). He wants to journey with people wherever they are wounded, lonely, confused, or simply in search of a deeper spiritual life.

Jan's goal is to help people experience God, especially wherever they need healing: loneliness, illness, a broken relationship, a spiritual wound. Whatever the pain, God is there and invites everyone to journey with him. Jan's books offer hope and help through the use of stories, scripture, and the wisdom of many.

A few facts: Jan Alkire is:

- the author of five books, all available on Amazon.com

I enjoyed reading this book. It was a very good read. Learning of the difficulties going to another country and adapting to their ways. Meeting family, finally. The struggles that were met.

I have found Jan Alkire's book to be a great source of healing; spiritually, emotionally and physically. Through the pages of this simple, down to earth book I have learned different and exciting new ways to pray - for myself as well as others. The pages are filled with life experiences and practical suggestions about finding new ways in which to approach God. The "For You" section which follows each chapter gives invitational and instructive ways to our own healing. Overall, I found this book to be thought provoking, invitational, and easy to follow and apply.
