About the author
Deborah G. Felder was born in New York City and grew up in Northport, NY. A graduate of Bard College, where she studied drama and literature, she was an actor, a teacher, and an editor at Scholastic, Inc. before embarking upon a career as a freelance writer. She is the author of books chronicling influential women, literary works by women, and noteworthy events in women’s history. These include The American Women's Almanac; A Century of Women: the Most Influential Events in Twentieth-Century Women’s History; A Bookshelf of Our Own: Must-Reads for Women (also published as A Bookshelf of Our Own: Works That Changed Women’s Lives); Fifty Jewish Women Who Changed the World (with Diana Rosen); and The 100 Most Influential Women of All Time: A Ranking Past and Present. She co-authored The Handy Literature Answer Book with her husband, Daniel S. Burt. She has also published fiction and nonfiction for young readers, including adaptations of the classic novels Anne of Green Gables and The Three Musketeers.

The brief biographies are well-written. Includes a list of many who could have made the listing. Choices of women could have been more in keeping with the title, however quite interesting & informative.
