From the Back Cover

"GOD'S WORD is an easy-to-understand Bible translation. . . . It is a wonderful version."--Rev. Billy Graham

GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) accurately translates the meaning of the original texts into clear, everyday language. Readable and reliable, GW is living, active, and life-changing. It is ideally suited for devotional reading, in-depth study, memorization, discipleship, preaching, teaching, and worship.

The thinline edition features a special format. Books that are primarily prose are presented in two columns to create shorter, easier-to-read lines, while books that are primarily poetry are single-column to preserve parallelism, a key element of Hebrew poetry.

The thinline edition also offers these great features:

Convenient, portable size
Daily reading plan
Fast Track reading plan
Black-letter text
Presentation page
Translation and textual notes
Dictionary/Concordance
The Teachings of Jesus index
Application index

This is a lovely little Bible, which I have begun carrying with me to church. It use is for reading, as I don't consider it a study Bible. It is soft and supple. The language is God's Word, (I call it "no nonsense" translation). I think of it's translation as a "Father sits you down and talks straight talk to you". It reads simply and smoothly.

beautiful and the easy read version makes it even better. It comes with a soft leather like cover and beautiful silver edge pages. There's no way you can go wrong with this purchase.

An edition of the God's Word Translation (I've had mine about 8 years), the books vary between two-column and single-column format. Basically, Job thru Lamentations (except Ecclesiastes) are single-column, along with a few others, like Micah. The end of Revelation is page 1169. It's not extremely thin, for a "thinline" edition. It's good quality and was published in 2010 by Baker Books. The page edges have silver gilding -- attractive, but they need "broken in" -- the pages, especially at the corners, will stick together a little when still new (this is normal, and they unstick easily with some use). The binding is glued, so that also needs broken in before it will lay open on its own. The paper is fine, and the black words on white page are well-contrasted. The font style and size is acceptable, nothing extraordinary as far as readability.
The translation itself is good. I like it better than some -- I'd prefer it over NLT for example, which has a similar translation philosophy. But it's not in my top 3, let's say, of translations and revisions since 1990.
One thing they did well was judging how to handle gender inclusiveness. For example in Hebrews 2:6-8 they retained the singular pronoun, while some translations go for plural "them" to avoid saying "him" where the text may possibly refer to men or women. There's actually a good footnote at this point (Son of man; or son of man -- see also Psalm 8).
I like how many word pictures that exist in the original language texts are preserved, for example Colossians 2:17:

"These are a shadow of the things to come, but the body that casts the shadow belongs to Christ."

Overall, it's a solid 4 star Bible in translation and this particular edition. I wouldn't recommend it in the vicinity of 30 dollars though. New editions are available through the God's Word website, sometimes on special, and Amazon has them too. Like I said, not in my top 3, and if I was buying God's Word Translation today I would get a newly published edition.

I was excited to find this available as I have found GOD'S WORD to be one of the few modern dynamic-equivalency translations that I could recommend. I was especially thrilled to find it in leather, as many editions of GOD'S WORD are paperback or hardcover. The binding in this edition appears very rugged and durable. A Bible is not a throw-away item and I take issue with Bibles that are put together as such.

In that vein, I had to deduct two stars. The paper used in this printing is extremely thin- so much so that the pages stick together and make a crinkling noise akin to tissue paper. This makes this edition less suitable for public reading or church services.

Another peeve of mine is that this edition does not include the Apocrypha and if one wants the Apocrypha, they must buy the GOD'S WORD Apocrypha seperately. While Protestants such as myself do not believe in the Apocrypha are canonical, they are still useful for general reading.

I got this Bible for my 20 something daughter and she gets complements on the cover all the time. It is really cute. The version is easy to understand and makes reading a pleasure.

These are really pretty bibles but they give me and my little girls such eye strain reading them. I'm not sure why people bother printing Bibles with such fine print when they could've easily put in a few more pages end of this book and made the print easy to read. I bought two of these one for each of my girls and we tried to read a chapter of the Bible every night but I'm going to have to do something else because it's just too small and uncomfortable to read. They look like very nice Bibles and well put together so for that I will give it three stars.

This is a new translation to me that I have only recently heard about and as I am sending verses taken from this bible version to all my friends by SMS from the bible gateway I had to have the actual bible as well which I find similar to the NIV but slightly easier to read as the english is more modern than the NIV and the SMS I send to my friends like it too
