I'm going to separate this review into two parts. The first part will be for the translation; the second part will be for the eBook quality.

God's Word Translation: 4.8/5
I really enjoy this translation for two main reasons. The first thing is this translation's readability. While I am fond of certain aspects of the old English translations such as King James Version and Young's Literal Translation, I prefer more modernized and, in my opinion, readable versions such as New Living Translation, New International Version, and of course this version. The other thing I like about this translation that even makes it stand out from other modern translations I've read is that most, if not all, of the deviations from a strictly literal translation are made clear to the reader, usually by placing a <> around the added word(s). I really enjoy that because it gives readers the option to read it both ways, either with or without the added words. Also, for me, it seems like a much more honest translation.

eBook Quality: 4.5/5
I'm very glad to have found a Bible for my Kindle Fire. Having a digital version makes for much easier transport. I especially enjoy the Go-to feature, the search feature, and the highlighting feature. The go-to and search features make it much easier to navigate and quickly find whatever it is I'm looking for. The fact that I can highlight verses makes up for the fact that Jesus's words aren't written in red. I can just highlight them all!
There are a couple things I don't like. First of all, the chapter numbers on the chapter selection pages for each book are small and hard to click on, which is a little frustrating when I end up clicking the wrong chapter number. Secondly, when I'm flipping pages, it'll sometimes jump to a different page rather than just go to the next page, and it's difficult to navigate back and get the pages to load in order again.

Total: 4.65/5
Overall, I'm very happy with this Bible. It's a pleasant addition to my Kindle Fire and I definitely recommend it.

One of the beauties of a Kindle is that it allows one to have multiple translations of the Bible in compact form. One of the drawbacks of most e-Bibles is the difficulty of navigating through their text to locate specific passages. Baker Publishing Group's Holy Bible, GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) (with direct verse lookup and book and chapter navigation) may have solved this issue.

This is a more contemporary translation than I typically use. Based on a comparison using Zondervan's Contemporary Comparative Side-by-Side Study Bible, the Holy Bible GOD'S WORD Translation appears to be of the same type as the New International Version and New Living Translation. While I personally prefer the language of the King James or New King James versions, I will probably use the Holy Bible GOD'S WORD Translation during group study sessions.

Holy Bible, GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) (with direct verse lookup and book and chapter navigation) has, by far, the easiest and most intuitive direct verse look-up and navigation of any of the four e-Bibles I have downloaded. Unlike these e-Bibles' navigation systems, with Baker Publishing Group's version one simply enters the first four letters, with a few exceptions, of the desired book followed by a space and then the chapter and verse entry separated by either a period or a colon. When there are multiple books of the same name, one enters the number of the desired book followed by a space and then the first two letters of the book.

An introductory section provides the list of abbreviations. So that I have the abbreviations available for others to use, I created a spreadsheet putting "OLD" in bold on the first row which had no outlining. Then I continued the spreadsheet, outlining each cell, with the dimensions 5 columns and 8 rows; I listed the abbreviations vertically, e.g. the abbreviation for Exodus under that for Genesis. I then skipped a row, putting "NEW" in bold without any outlining, and listed 6 abbreviations per column, again outlining each cell. After cutting the chart out, I covered it with clear Contact and now carry it in the front pocket of my Kindle cover.

If you are seeking a contemporary translation and want an e-Bible that is extremely easy to navigate, you need look no further. You will find that the Holy Bible GOD'S WORD Translation from Baker Publishing Group is a 5-star e-Bible.

Exactly what I was looking for. Large print, good price, minimal wear and tear being that it is a second hand Bible. Very pleased. The packaging was secure and I received it before the stated date.

I agree with previous reviews . . . Finally a version of the Bible that I am able to find a verse by its reference in less time than I could find it in my paper Bible. I have downloaded several paid versions that do not function anywhere near as great as this one does. Like others, I am also looking forward to seeing NIV and a NASB versions come out that are this easy to use. While this is not the NIV version (my favorite), it is close enough that I will be happy to use it during church when I need to get to a specific Scripture swiftly.

I bought my Kindle because I wanted to be able to use it to replace my old, paper NIV Bible that was falling apart, and I also recognized my need to go to a larger print text. I looked at Large Print editions in a brick and mortar bookstore, but I didn't want to tote around a Bible that weighed twice or three times as much as my old paper Bible. Up until now, I have been pretty disappointed in how the various Kindle Bibles I have purchased have functioned on the Kindle. With practice, I have been able to navigate some of those versions faster as time has gone one, but this version makes searching a whole lot easier. And it was free! Good job!

One of the best modern translations it makes the bible accessible and readable, and is easy to navigate in kindle.
For anyone looking to read the bible for the first time, or someome familiar with it, but looking for a different translation, (something I would recommend, familiarity can breed contempt or boredom & reading something we are familar with in a new translation gives us fresh insights) this is ideal; faithful to the original languages, but written in English that is accessible but not so modern that it will be out-of-date next year, this should stand the test of time.
