The Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I Paperback – January 5, 2010

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 787 ratings

The legend starts here!

The Legend of Drizzt® Collector’s Edition, Book I collects the first three novels in this best-selling series: Homeland, Exile, and Sojourn in a new trade paperback edition. A great value for anyone who’s ready to experience the Legend of Drizzt.

Drizzt Do’Urden made his first mistake the moment he was born: he was a boy. In the rigid matriarchy of the dark elf city of Menzoberranzan, that makes his life forfeit. But when his own mother tries but fails to kill him, Drizzt's path is set. He must find a way to escape the treacherous Underdark, even if that means setting out alone into the no less dangerous World Above.

Leominster, Massachusetts is known for four things: Johnny Appleseed, a thriving plastics industry, Robert Cormier, and New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore. With over 20 million books sold worldwide, more than four dozen book and numerous game credits Salvatore has become one of the most important figures in modern epic fantasy.

A lifelong resident of Massachusetts, R.A. Salvatore, began writing shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications/Media from Fitchburg State College. He penned his first manuscript in 1982, in a spiral notebook, writing by candlelight while listening to Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk album.

Bob’s first published novel, "The Crystal Shard", was released in February of 1988. By 1990 his third book, "The Halfling’s Gem", had made the New York Times bestseller list.

Salvatore spends a good deal of time speaking to schools and library groups, encouraging people, particularly young people, to read. With the zeal of a religious convert, he talks about the virtues of reading and the ultimate appeal, “it is fun.” He remembers his return to reading when he was in college, “The blizzard of 1978 shut down my college for a week. My sister had given me a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, which I read while house-bound. When I got back to school, I changed my major from math to communications.”

Salvatore makes his home in Massachusetts, with his wife, Diane and their two dogs, Ivan and Dexter. He spends his “free time” coaching and playing softball on a team made up of family and close friends. His gaming group still meets on Sunday nights to play games. Of late, they have been playing the new game R.A.designed with Bryan Salvatore and Geno Salvatore, "DemonWars: Reformation", a role-playing game set in the World of Corona.

He is currently working on more novels set in Corona for his DemonWars series.

I ordered the paperback. These are the first DnD books I've ever read. I decided to give them a try since, RJ Salvatore wrote it. I've read his Star Wars books and really enjoyed them. I just started reading this last night and could not put it down! Time flew by so fast that it was 0130 before I realized it! I'm enjoying learning about Drow and their culture. Drizzit is an interesting character. Salvatore is fantastic at World building. The action is fast paced, and the story is very engaging.

Happy reading everyone!

This book series spans over 20 books and readers differ in what way to read them so my opinion is based on being a reader in 2021-2022. This trilogy was amazing. A fantastic fantasy story that was enjoyable from start to finish that even before I finish the first book in this volume I bought the other omnibus. After finishing this omnibus, my only complaint is that i waited so long to read this fantastic story. My favorite origin story in a long time.

The book came in 10/10 condition, even had that new book smell. 900+ pages of pure Forgotten Realms fantasy and it's paced so well that in a span of 8 hours (on and off) over 2 days I found myself on page 450. EASY to read for everyone, even easier if you have some D&D knowledge, but none required.

This book contains the first three novels in the Legend of Drizzt series and I read all three within about a month. The first one is my least favorite of the three but it’s still a good book. I debate if book two or three are my favorite as I enjoyed both quite a bit. Regardless though I’d recommend this series to fantasy readers or fans of Dungeons & Dragons as this series takes place within familiar sights for D&D players like the Underdark. In book three Drizzt visits the Ten Towns of Icewind Dale which I liked as I’m currently playing the campaign Rhyme of the Frostmaiden which is set in Icewind Dale. So it was cool getting to read about some of the locations I experienced as a player. Looking forward to reading more in this series and getting to know more of the cool supporting characters along the way of Drizzt’s adventures featured in the previous three books.

Overall quality for a used book (purchased used) was really good.

This book in general is a good read if you’re into DND (realm) fantasy.

So nice to be able to find the first D&D books I read. Still a little strange that all 3 books are in 1 now, but there we go.

The book arrived the next day (good old prime) in excellent condition.

Not much else to say, it's a Drizzt book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The true beginning of a Legend

I don't know what else say apart from BUY IT if you like fantasy. I cannot think of a better beginning for a saga that has accompanied me for so many years. I have read this trilogy at least ten times.
This edition is a bit heavy and it's a bit difficult to manage because of that, but it's beautiful. I love the cover, and I love the small drawings of Drizzt at the beginning of each chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great trilogy, Great space saver
Reviewed in Canada on September 9, 2014
I had purchased this book with one intention, make room on my shelf. A few years ago I bought and read the entire 13 book series of the Legend of Drizzt. I love the series and this trilogy is no exception. It gives birth to Drizzt the character and his origin and raising. It molds him into what he needs to be for the rest of the series. A stunning trilogy of swordplay and cunning as houses war against each other for power and are rewarded for doing so without witnesses.

Now seeing as I intended this purchase to be simply a space saver, YES it does that also. With this book being about the size of two of the regular novels, perhaps a tiny bit wider than two novels. It saves the space of about one novel on my shelf, and that adds up if you get all 4 anniversary editions. So overall a worthwhile purchase and if I didn't already own the series, this would have been the cheaper way to go to start reading this amazing series. If your on the fence, I highly recommend this imaginative read.
