COLLECTING:
Runaways Vol. 3 #11-14, What If The Runaways Became the Young Avengers?
so long old Lace and with chase left being hit by a van at the end of the volume does this mean the rest of the group soon follow the tragic fate that seems to be taking apart their team one by one?
Here's the complete reading order for the main series:
Runaways, Vol. 1: Pride & Joy
Runaways, Vol. 2: Teenage Wasteland
Runaways Vol. 3: The Good Die Young
Runaways Volume 4: True Believers (Runaways (Numbered Paperback))
Runaways, Vol. 5: Escape to New York
Runaways Volume 6: Parental Guidance
Runaways, Vol. 8: Dead End Kids
Runaways - Volume 9: Dead Wrong
Runaways: Rock Zombies
Runaways: Homeschooling
(There's apparently a link limit, but the last two are also on Amazon.)
As to this last book (to date), the ending leaves things rather unsettled. And the story as a whole just isn't as good as the first two volumes of Runaways. I'm hoping someone else takes over the series in the future and brings it back to its former glory.
The description says "one Runaway will die" and I actually thought that who died was both a cop-out, and the worst possible Runaway to kill off.
Most of this book was just teenagers complaining. I guess you could say the same about the series, but I felt that previously the characters had some heart, but about half way through this book I was hoping that they'd just die so I didn't have to keep hearing a bunch of kids crying about their lives.
At the end there's a what if comic that's a "What if the Runaways became the Young Avengers?" This was probably the worst comic I've ever read. It's basically the first Young Avengers trade, with the characters changed. It was completely lazy and not worth anyone's time no matter how much of a fan they are of Runways or The Young Avengers.
The art was still bad, but that's nothing new. Then again the story, characters, and action is still bad so I don't know why I'm surprised.
If I sound bitter in this review it's because I am. Kathryn Immonen (with the help of Terry Moore) has ruined a comic that was one of my all time favorites.
