Their homes, their parents, their friends -- ever since first banding together and going out on their own, the Runaways have been no stranger to loss. Now, though they appear to finally be safe, none of them can get their minds off everything they've lost or given up. As they attempt to make merry despite their melancholy, the Runaways are struck by yet another catastrophe. A mysterious aircraft flying over their Malibu home is somehow lured to it, resulting in a fiery crash. As the team frantically digs through the rubble, they find that their home wasn't the only casualty: Yet another member of the team has fallen.

COLLECTING:
Runaways Vol. 3 #11-14, What If The Runaways Became the Young Avengers?
so long old Lace and with chase left being hit by a van at the end of the volume does this mean the rest of the group soon follow the tragic fate that seems to be taking apart their team one by one?

Runaways collects into 3 volumes covering 11 books (or 3 books if you buy the larger volume version) plus two side books. Volume 1 (Books 1-3) and Volume 2 (Books 4-8) were really, really good. Volume 3 (Books 9-1) was mediocre and ends kind of abruptly. The two size stories ( Civil War: Young Avengers & Runaways  and  Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers ) are alright but not really essential. If you want to read Runaways, it is a series to simply read in order since it's not that long. However, I wouldn't fault anyone who stopped reading after finishing Book 8 (Dead End Kids) and didn't bother with the last three books.

Here's the complete reading order for the main series:
Runaways, Vol. 1: Pride & Joy
Runaways, Vol. 2: Teenage Wasteland
Runaways Vol. 3: The Good Die Young
Runaways Volume 4: True Believers (Runaways (Numbered Paperback))
Runaways, Vol. 5: Escape to New York
Runaways Volume 6: Parental Guidance
Runaways, Vol. 8: Dead End Kids
Runaways - Volume 9: Dead Wrong
Runaways: Rock Zombies
Runaways: Homeschooling

(There's apparently a link limit, but the last two are also on Amazon.)

As to this last book (to date), the ending leaves things rather unsettled. And the story as a whole just isn't as good as the first two volumes of Runaways. I'm hoping someone else takes over the series in the future and brings it back to its former glory.

Let me say first that I loved Brian K. Vaughan's run, I liked Joss Whedon's run, I tolerated Terry Moore's run, but this is the last "Runaways" book I will ever buy. It's been going downhill since Brian K. Vaughan stopped writing, albeit slowly downhill. After buying "Rock Zombies" I told myself that I would only pick up one more book(only because there was a new writer who I'd heard was taking it in a "promising" direction) and after picking it up, I must say I wish I'd just given up on the series a long time ago.
The description says "one Runaway will die" and I actually thought that who died was both a cop-out, and the worst possible Runaway to kill off.

Most of this book was just teenagers complaining. I guess you could say the same about the series, but I felt that previously the characters had some heart, but about half way through this book I was hoping that they'd just die so I didn't have to keep hearing a bunch of kids crying about their lives.

At the end there's a what if comic that's a "What if the Runaways became the Young Avengers?" This was probably the worst comic I've ever read. It's basically the first Young Avengers trade, with the characters changed. It was completely lazy and not worth anyone's time no matter how much of a fan they are of Runways or The Young Avengers.

The art was still bad, but that's nothing new. Then again the story, characters, and action is still bad so I don't know why I'm surprised.

If I sound bitter in this review it's because I am. Kathryn Immonen (with the help of Terry Moore) has ruined a comic that was one of my all time favorites.

It feels disjunct in the story line. That could be because I'm missing an associated issue somewhere, or because the Secret War plot line came just before, but it is abrupt and jarring. As is the norm for a graphic novel, it finishes with a cliffhanger. This particular one simply feels unrewarding somehow.

Runaways is a decent book but story was semi lacking. Art is great
