About the author
Mike Carey got into writing through comic books, where his horror/fantasy series Lucifer garnered numerous international awards and was nominated for five Eisners. From there he moved into novels and screenplays, while still maintaining a presence in the comics world (he is currently writing two of Marvel's flagship titles, X-Men and Ultimate Fantastic Four). His movie Frost Flowers, an erotic ghost story, is currently in production with Hadaly/Bluestar Pictures. He lives in London, England, about as far as you can get from the centre of the city and still have access to the London Underground train network. His wife, Linda, writes fantasy for young readers under the pseudonym A.J. Lake. They have three children and an implausibly beautiful cat.

The Acolytes bring in the former Magneto, Erik Lehnsherr, who they now hold in contempt since he was depowered in the House Of M event, and essentially is no longer a mutant. Despite their disdain for him, the group thinks that Erik may be able to reach some part of Charles's dormant consciousness where they have thus far failed. Without saying too much, Xavier does eventually regain consciousness, but his mind is muddled. Memories that used to be clear to him are now mixed up and hard to make sense out of. Memories that he didn't know he'd blocked--or were blocked for him--start to come to the surface.
This is just the beginning of a complicated journey for Xavier back to lucidity, and to grips with his conscience for things he's done that he now regrets, and this journey provides a strong focus for X-Men Legacy through the coming issues and collections. The art in this book is sensational. They've brought together a host of great artists both to revisit some of the key moments in X-history and to chronicle the new path the book is stepping onto. This is a great collection of material from a very strong period for X-Men and the related books, recommended for anyone who's even a casual X-Men fan, and even more recommended for the diehard X-fan.
This is the follow up to messiah complex, a story which also is a follow up to the decimation and the events of house of M. As most of this stories, it revolves around the changes that are happening in the continuity of the x-men universe. There book has plenty of cameos and references to previous story lines, this is a true treat to the x-fans, in my opinion, "divided he stands" has been the most successful story at doing that.
Although, like all of these post-no more mutants stories, "divided he stands" feels inconclusive and slightly exploited. Nevertheless, it manages to do a swell job exploring characterization and mythos.
Entertaining read.
