Annihilus is the will! Annihilus is the way!

Annihilus is the will! Annihilus is the way!
Annihilus is forever!Hearing all the raves for Annihilation, Marvel's event in the spaceways, I got the last two trades for it.Collecting Annihilation #1-6, Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus #1-2 and Annihilation: Nova Corps. Files, BOOK THREE sees the conclusion to the event, and let me tell you this: it does NOT disappoint. There's so much that goes on in Annihilation, I'll give you a broad rundown on why it's worth your 17 bucks.-GRAND-SCALE MOMENTS: You can tell that the Annihilation War is epic. Gods (Galactus) are desecrated. Civilizations (Xandar, House of Fiyero, Skrull Empire)are destroyed. Pariahs (Ronan the Accuser) are restored. But best of all, these radical changes are ADHERED TO. This means the change in the status quo REMAINS the change - if the Supreme Intelligence is killed, then it STAYS dead. You can count on artistic integrity from writer Keith Giffen.-STRONG CHARACTERS, STRONG RELATIONSHIPS: Keith Giffen is an expert in garnering emotional investment. Whether it's showing Drax's fervor to kill Thanos or Nova's need for revenge in the name of Nova Corps., you'd have a hard time NOT caring about them. The villains have wonderful personalities as well: megalomaniacs (Annihilus) are absolutely, endearingly in fact, fixated on destroying everything and ruling what remains, while strategists (Thanos of Titan) inject sardonic wit into the epic, while heralds (Ravenous) see the punishment for their crimes! Each character has their own story within the Annihilation story, adding depth to the epic. The only complaints I have of this book is that artist Andrea DiVito is a slight step down from Annihilation: Silver Surfer artist Renato Arlem, and that Annihilation: Nova Corps. Files (an encyclopedia, essentially) is dry and unenjoyable. Also, there's a great number of characters involved in Annihilation. It might be confusing to keep track of them all, so don't read this book unless you've read at least one of the other trades, or the major plot points from a website or blog. Try out Book 1 to see if you like the flavor, and decide then to embrace it or not. If you embrace it, you're definitely in for a hell of a ride.Overall, strong plots with well-written characterization. Marvel in space is looking mighty bright, and your 17 bucks are definitely not wasted here.

If I had to review this book in one word, it would be: Payoff!

Disparate threads woven masterfully by Keith Giffen and the other writers over the various limited series that make up the Annihilation event all come to fruition, with just enough loose ends to tantalize the reader. I particularly enjoyed the Surfer/ Galactus and Thanos/ Drax arcs, although the Nova and Super Skrull/ Ronan ones were also fun. Annihilus went out with a bang, and what I appreciate is how consequential the event was. No "as if it never happened" happy ending this, which is great to see. There was also that nod to events on Earth (the Civil War event which was contemporaneous) that made me curious to read that storyline as well...

In reviewing this series/ event, so far I haven't commented on the art, which is a disservice to the books. The art is, well, cosmically good! Any fan of full page epic panels or the Star Wars cantina scene will walk away sated from devouring these books.

The only two turnoffs for me were the resurrection of a character that had died a pretty good death (but here I'm flogging a dead horse will known to comic fans) and the overpopulation of super mighty cosmic beings. One or two are great reading, but when everyone is awesome, no one is!

In summary, I think this was a great introduction to the Marvel cosmic stories for me (not having read Infinity Gauntlet), and I look forward now to the sequel, Annihilation: Conquest

I've been trying to collect all Guardians of the Gaaxy comics or Guardians related comics for some time now. Through Amazon I have purchased both halves of the Abnett/Lanning 2008 run, and all trades and individual issues of the recent 2014 Brian Michael Bendis run, as well as trades for the entirety of the new Legendary StarLord series. I've also picked up the Thanos Imperative.

Then, months after I thought I had everything I needed, I learn of the "Annihilation" event series of 2007, and its follow up event "Annihilation Conquest" of 2013. Imagine my surprise. Oh but they're all neatly collected in two Omnibus-seses right? Wrong. The Annihilation Omnibus, if you can even find it through any retailer, is going for upwards of $200. Granted I find it to be that valuable, but I'm not willing to shell out $200 clams for something I could read within a week. Annihilation Conquest however is much more readily available and just as essential for any Cosmic Marvel or GOTG fan.

So I figured trade paperbacks would be my best bet for parting the event out and being able to afford it without losing an arm. Imagine my surprise when I saw a listing for book 2 and 3 of 3 for just $5.00 and $10.00 respectively. Go ahead.....

Imagine it.....

Was it too good to be true to you too? A trade book, used, for five dollars, with Prime shipping, from a third party seller that hadn't sold anything else on Amazon yet at all judging by its lack of reviews. But you know what? It wasn't too good to be true. In fact, they both arrived today, exactly when they were supposed to, with no markings in them whatsoever. Good binding, no bends, no stuck together pages, no missing pages, no wear or tear almost at all, and no library Dewey Decimal System label on the side which is common from third party used comic retailers.

This has moved me, so much so that I'm now writing my first product review after using Amazon faithfully for almost two years and having Prime for one and a half of those years. If you're a comic book collector, or your just into Cosmic Marvel or GOTG, and you see a listing from RebelComics, know that you can trust them. As shady as it may seem, they do a whole lot of good when it comes to prices on used comics. You can't go wrong.

The first couple stories in this part if Annihilation are inspiring and very well done. I was slightly disappointed with how abruptly it all comes to an end. I wish the final fight with Annihilus was more detailed and epic. The Annihilation Heralds of Galacticus were not favorite my by any measure. If it had been longer and had more of a point I would have felt better

I've loved this story since it was first printed back in summer 2006 over Marvel's other big crossover that year Civil War (to which I also love but enjoyed this more)

A true worthy successor to Jim Stalin's original Infinity Gauntlet Saga even above Infinity War and Infinity Crusade, and that it starts a 4 year run of epic cosmic warfare opera's Annihilation, Annihilation Conquest, War Of Kings, Ending In Thanos Imperative.

Not reached again untill Jonathan Hickman's Avengers, New Avengers run into Secret Wars(2015)

This is the third book in this series and is the best looking of the three though all the artists did good job's with their books this on has the cleanest line work and color palette

Great cosmic action! Great characters and just a fun read. Nice to re-ignite excitement for Marvel Cosmic. Sets up a lot of other fun stories soon after.

At last here we see the proper annihilation war with all the different cosmic characters we've been following in books one and two. I really liked the war, especially how the writers really made me see how dangerous the wave was. I did think the wave, and annihilus personally, were just kind of defeated rather quickly considering how powerful they were built up to be. So the miniseries could have done with perhaps two or more issues to give the finale some more room to breath and take its time. Would highly recommend this entire event to any science fiction fan.

fantastic conclusion to the series and a great collection. book one and three are incredible reads. great character development on so many ambiguous characters. lots of fun.

This is a total dirty bomb of a book of a book with lots of nasty wonderful suprises and a almost satisfying ending to the least enjoyable jackass villian Annihilus. Which unfortunately is a title and not a singular character, so there are more Jackasses in the sea or in this case the negative zone. Other wise pure chewing satisfaction in every mouthwatering, tender beffy page of this InterGalactic Planetery Space Battle Extravaganza! nine and a Half Zap Guns out of 11 Zap Guns Born To Teleport!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best graphic novel I have brought.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 26, 2012
As other reviews have indicated: this graphic novel is excellent and proberly the best i have bought upto now. Unlike the first 2 Annihilation books, the quality of the artwork is consistently great throughout.

As great as this book is, you will need to read Annihilation Book 1 and Book 2 beforehand. The quality artwork is inconsistant in the first 2 books but the story is still great. The Annihilation Wave was a great Marvel event that used many long-standing characters like Thanos, Annihilus, Nova, Quasar, Super Skrull, Drax, Galactus and many, many more.

Also, the Annihilation comics are no longer in print so this product is getting rare - so buy now before it is too late.

A beautiful edition of great, epic, comics. The story rattles along with a wide cast, and a lot going on. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
