Rock Guitar For Dummies Paperback – October 15, 2001

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 101 ratings

Face it, being a rock guitarist is just about the coolest thing you can be – next to a secret agent with a black belt in karate. But even if you were a butt-kicking international person of mystery, playing rock guitar would still be cooler because it involves art, passion, power, poetry, and the ability to move an audience of listeners. Whether "moving your listeners" means mowing down crowd surfers with your power chords or making the audience cry with your sensitive melodies, no other musical instrument allows you so much versatility.

Whatever rocks your world, Rock Guitar For Dummies can help you bring that message out through your fingers and onto that electric guitar that's slung over your shoulder. If you're a beginner, you'll discover what you need to know to start playing immediately, without drowning in complicated music theory. If you've been playing for a while, you can pick up some tips to help improve your playing and move to the next level.

Here's a sampling of the topics covered in Rock Guitar For Dummies:

  • How electric guitars and amplifiers work
  • Choosing the right guitar and amp for you, and how to care for them

  • Left-hand and right-hand guitar techniques

  • The different styles of rock guitar playing
  • Creating great riffs
  • The history of rock guitar
  • Buying accessories for your new toy
  • Top Ten lists of the guitarists you should listen to, the rock albums you must have, and the classic guitars you should know about

Rock Guitar For Dummies also comes with a CD that includes audio of every example shown in the book, plus play-along tracks with a band.

So, if you consider yourself an air guitar virtuoso and would like to try the real thing, Rock Guitar For Dummies can help you on your way to becoming an accomplished guitarist.

Note: CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file.

Selling borrow and share books on Amazon? I'm confused.
Look as if this copy was taken for free from a book sharing network and sold on Amazon. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to work. I will read it and release it back into the wild as it should have been. Also, I will try to remember to return and update once read.

It's another great book For Dummies series, I am a self learning person and I recommends this book for everyone who are searching for a book to learn how to improve a good rock guitar. The book uses a very simple text (just for dummies), and explain most of the things you need to know about the sound, the chords, rhythms, basic techniques and improving good solos... It's just for disturb your neighbors with a nice rock guitar sounds... But like most of things in life... practice will make you a master... As me, I hope you enjoy this book

I think this book has a lot to offer to both beginners and intermediate/advanced player, if you use it this way:
Beginners - read the entire book, listen to the audio samples as you look at the tabs. Try to play some of them but don't sweat it. Use it as a cool way to find out what's out there and to hear interesting pieces, some of which you will be able to play in the future. Can't play something? Just skip it.
Inter/ advanced - read + play the pieces.

Note: the kindle book doesn't come with the audio, I had the publisher email it to me.

Cool book to open your mind and venture into the world of rock guitar

5.0 out of 5 stars Really helpful, you can genuinely learn with this

Brilliantly written, particularly good at explaining things you feel you really ought to have already known. Great chapters on hardware, amps and effects; as well as actually *playing* rhythm and lead. The style is just right, not too dry and not too full of "humour".
I'm not sure a total beginner could work through this without a lot of work, but if you've played a few chords, have a helpful friend who plays or are coming from another instrument, you really could find yourself playing rock guitar with this book and plenty of practice and dedication.

I've been playing for over 40 yrs, and still no where near a natural guitar player. I don't play because I'm good, I play becsuse I enjoy it. This book goes at my pace. If you are a fantastic guitar player, this is not for you. If you are a complete beginner, yeah, or like me, a veteran guitarist, who needs some gaps filled. Also, it was 69p or something.. 😀
