You've already met Keiichi Maebara and his mischievous friends in the Abducted by Demons Arc. But Oyashiro-sama's curse is poised to strike anew in Hinamizawa village. When Keiichi spots tomboy Mion working at a maid café, he can hardly believe his eyes! But it's not Mion after all - it's her identical twin sister, Shion. Keiichi's never heard of this "twin sister" before and suspects it's just another one of Mion's pranks. But through Shion, Keiichi is able to see a quieter, more feminine side of his best friend, even if it is all an act. As Keiichi spends more time with Shion, however, Rena grows more accusatory...

Most of the pages look like they are printed over eachother so you can’t really appreciate the art. Very very disappointing.

Cotton Drifting is the second of the Higurashi When They Cry arcs, each of which consists of two volumes; Volume 1, which is beautiful cute and makes you love all the characters, and Volume 2 which is bloody violent and murderous horror. (If you're looking for the *actual* first volume of the series, go get Higurashi When They Cry: Abducted By Demons Arc.) While it may sound a bit like a nasty trick to play, the supernatural murder mystery that plays out is made all the more compelling by spending an entire volume getting to know the characters involved in the tragedy to come. Though that's not to say Volume 1 will leave you enturely unprepared; the author drops so many little hints and clues through the story that it's well worth a second read once you've seen the end!

The basic story of the Higurashi "Question Arcs" follows Keiichi Maebara, a Japanese high schooler who recently moved to the small town of Hinamizawa where a brutal tragedy is about to take place. In the Cotton Drifting arc the story has been reset to the beginning and takes a sort of "alternate path" to the tragedy that focuses on Keiichi's best friend, the boistrous tomboy Mion Sonozaki. In Volume 1 he meets up with her in a...compromising situation, but she claims she's actually SHION, Mion's twin sister! The situation that follows is as complicated as it is funny, with just a few light hints of the visceral horror that's coming in the next volume...

If you can take adowably cute AND brutally violent in the same story, go ahead and pick up Cotton Drifting Vol 1 AND Vol 2 right now. They tell a complete story between the two of them and you WILL need the second as soon as you're done with the first! It's a vicious mystery (for my money the most complex of all the arcs) that gives you a lot of clues but no definitive answers until much later in the Higurashi series, but that just makes it all the more addictive.

Almost bought this series used, but wanted to support the creators so I bought new. So I buy new... the corners of both volumes of this arc are messed up. I am not completely torn, but I'de like a little more quality buying new; dark horse cellophanes' all their books. I'de have the whole collection if I bought 'used' by now.

Great series, and a decent price on amazon. It has the odd and rare balance, of having both humor and thriller/horror at the same time. Usually those two genres don't mix well, but some how Ryukishi07 manages to do it, and as a result its a great unique series. The art work is good, but not the best I have seen in a manga.
